Google Nest Hub AQI reporting wrong

jugstats
Community Member

I have a Google Nest Hub and recently moved about 5 miles but still in the same city. Once I updated my hub to my new address it started reporting AQI of 435. I have changed it back to my old address and the AQI is 12, so I have tried different address in my new area and they all report 435. Not sure where the the hub is getting the information but I am sure that it is wrong. How can I fix this for my new address?

Supposedly (https://www.howtogeek.com/755662/what-is-aqi-on-google-nest/), Google Nest gets the Air Quality Index from https://www.airnow.gov. You could go to that site and see what value you get. You can also check monitors near you on that site. Our AQI reading on our Nest Hub Max changes throughout the day.

Yes, I have went to the airnow.gov web site and it shows everything correct and nothing being reported at the 435 level in my area.

@jugstats

Have you just left it for awhile to see if it self-corrects? Maybe (hopefully) it's a temporary quirk when changing addresses.

I was hoping the same thing but this has been going on for the last 3 months and I have gotten tired of seeing the AQI pop up on my hub showing this warning.

@jugstats

Google Nest uses some sort of database from Google Maps for everyone's address throughout the world. This database has incorrect timezones for some customers throughout the world. Numerous customers have posted about incorrect timezones on their Google Nest devices in this forum, but have either been unable to even get Google Nest to acknowledge the proexists or have been told to go to the Google Maps community forum to get it resolved (where they are unable to do so.)

Perhaps you are encountering another error in this database, one that causes Google Nest to error out and report "435" as the AQI for your new area.

This is just speculation on my part, but it does seem like some sort of address/location error.

@jugstats

If we tap on the AQI reading on our Nest Hub Max, we get a list of AQI readings in our area.  What happens on yours?

No, I still have the problem. Here is an address of a school that is close by and you will have the same problem with the reporting AQI.

Did you ever solve this?

my display is showing an AQI much different than what I find for the same location on airnow.gov
