Google Next Hub 2nd gen lost all settings

I went to bed last light night and the device said it lost connection to WiFi. Even though it is a touch screen, it would not let me pick another SSID like my phone or other devices. How stupid is that! I had to go to the google home app. It made me factory reset the Nest! It took a while, but I got it connected to a closer SSID, Now it will not respond to my voice for some questions like "how did I sleep last night".  The instructions where to set voice in google home can not be found? Other system suggestions said clear cache, reinstall the app, etc. I am a strong user and software developer. Working on this project for hours with zero progress. I am ready to throw the hub out. Home assistant works 100 times better. At a loss what to try next. None of the online search help works.

Hi @GaryK4,

Thanks for reaching out! I'm sorry to hear that your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) lost connection to Wi-Fi and is giving you a hard time by not responding to your voice for some questions after the recent factory reset and setup. I know how frustrating it is when the device does not work as expected. I appreciate the thorough troubleshooting you've already done. No worries, help is here.

To isolate the issue, I’d like to ask a few questions:

  • Aside from the command you mentioned, are there other specific requests that aren't working?
  • Just to confirm, when you say you're not getting a response, do you mean that the Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) isn't responding at all, or is it giving you an error message? If you're getting an error message, please let me know what it says.
  • Are you using a personal Gmail account or Google Workspace?

Since the factory reset cleared your local information on the Google Nest Hub (2nd gen), your Assistant likely views you as a "Guest." Let's try these specific steps to restore your permissions:

  1. Open the Google Home app and tap on your profile in the top right.
  2. Go to Assistant settings and tap on Voice Match.
  3. Find your Google Nest Hub (2nd gen) and ensure it is toggled ON. (If it's missing, tap Add devices).
  4. Go back to Assistant settings > Personal results and ensure they are enabled for this specific Hub.

Please refer to this article to set up your Personal Results: Allow personal results on your assistant-enabled devices.

Feel free to share any additional details you think might be relevant.

Best regards,

Sara
