Is it possible to create custom routines or scenarios with the Home app?

Is it possible to create custom routines or scenarios with the Home app? I'm looking to personalize my smart home experience by setting up unique sequences of actions. For instance, can I create a morning routine that adjusts the thermostat, turns on specific lights, and provides a weather update when I say a particular command?

Additionally, how flexible is the app in terms of customization? Can I schedule these routines to run automatically at certain times or have them triggered by specific events, such as when I arrive home? I want to explore the full extent of customization options available within the Home app to tailor my smart home setup to my preferences.

From what I understand of your question, Google Home will do all of these things. I have a nighttime routine that shuts off all my lights, all my TVs, puts two thermostats into Eco mode, and the third one set to a specific temp for the bedroom. I have another that sets certain things in the middle of the night just based on the time. Triggered events is the only area that you "might" have issues with. Location trigger should totally work (I'm not an iPhone user, so I can't comment if there are limitations there). Other triggers are possible as well, but it might depend on what you are trying to do. For instance I'm trying to set up one command that does "A" if speaker "B" here's the command, but does "X" if speaker "Y" hears the same exact command. The obvious work around is to add a word and make two different commands, but I'm trying to simplify things for my non-techie wife. Long story short, you can probably do most if not all the things that you want and probably without any difficulty.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here, Switch612.

pablolari, thanks for posting. Google Assistant helps with your tasks throughout the day. If you say a command or perform an action on a supported device, Google Assistant does what you set that particular routine to do. Check out the steps below on how to create a routine:

Create a Personal Routine:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap Automations Add select Household.
  3. To name your Routine, tap Untitled.
    • If you add a voice starter before you name your Routine, the voice starter becomes the name.
  4. Add the starters and actions you want. Note: If your Routine is set to start automatically and includes actions with audio, specify the device you want the audio to play on. At the bottom, tap No device for audio, select a device and tap Save.
  5. Tap Save.

Create a Household Routine:

  5. Tap Save.

I hope this helps,

Regards,

Juni
