Nest thermostat setup showing wrong serial number

I bought a nest thermostat about a year ago and successfully set it up. This week I was painting my house and removed it. On trying to plug it back in, I keep getting no power issues. I factory reset it and now keep getting “Continue Setup in app”. 

While setting up, it asks me to pick the last 4 characters of the device’s serial number. Unfortunately it shows the wrong serial number. 

I tried the home app on iOS, and also on my wife’s Android device. It’s getting really cold and it’s very frustrating that a simple setup is making me lose my mind.

  • What type of Nest thermostat do you have?
  • Where was the thermostat installed before, in the Google Home App or the Nest App?
  • When you had power issues, did you have an error code in the thermostat screen?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.
