No colour control for bulbs

makataktak

Re-occurrence of an olds fault for me today. Approx 10 bulbs, all online. I'm able to switch & dim through Google Home App and via Voice on various speakers/hubs. Colour options have disappeared from every single bulb in the household (in the app). If you ask via voice it says 'the device is offline' even though it isn't.  Was there an update today that's affecting the backend for lots of people? Or is it a local issue with my household?

If applicable: reconnecting the brand app to the Google Home app sometimes helps.

My Tuya Wi-Fi bulbs are working perfectly via Google Home app and speakers.

Are they all the same brand?

Unfortunately not, all connected directly to Google Home Matter (mix of TP Link and Wizz).

Worked perfectly for 1yr & happened yesterday.

Hi @makataktak,

Thanks for posting to the community! I understand the color option has disappeared for your bulbs in the Google Home app, and when you try to adjust it, you receive a ‘The device is offline’ error message, even though the bulbs are actually online. I see, you’re able to switch and dim them through the Google Home app and control them via voice on your speakers and hubs. I know how important it is for your bulbs to work properly. Don’t worry, I’m here to help!
To better assist you, I’d like to gather a bit more information:

  • Do the color options still appear in the bulb manufacturer’s own app?
  • Could you confirm if you tried linking or unlinking the services in the Google Home app?

@SmartHomeH-TAGS, thanks for jumping in.

Any additional details you can provide will be very helpful in finding the cause.

Regards,

Beula

Tapo B22 MATTER Smart Bulb

I don't know if their app works, I specifically bought these bulbs as they were Matter & could connect straight to 'Google Home'.  They all worked perfectly for over 1yr.  No services have been recently linked or unlinked.  We just woke up one morning & the functionality was gone.

Numerous others are now encountering the same issue with their bulbs in the last few days.  Based on a thread I started on Reddit it is not just me, something changed at the server side to 'break' this.

Same issue here with a different set of Matter bulbs:

AiDot OREiN Matter Smart Light Bulb, RGBTW, model OS0100811267

Worked fine for the past two years, and then suddenly this week under "Color" when clicked into the light's settings in the Google Home mobile app (on iOS) the only options listed are different temperatures of White, instead of the full RGBW range of options that used to be displayed.

I’m having the exact same issue as betweentehlines. I have 6 matter bulbs in my room, and on one of them, an Ikea Varmblixt lamp. This one light only has 6 options, all just warm or cool tones of white. Every other bulb in the room still has the full range of color options.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your response. To resolve this issue, let's try the following steps:

  1. Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.
  2. Unlink the bulb or device from the Google Home app.
  3. Uninstall and reinstall the third-party app associated with the bulb.
  4. Remove one of the bulbs from the third-party app, then set it up again.
  5. Re-link the device to the Google Home app.

If the issue persists: Perform a factory reset on the bulbs and set them up again.

Please note: If you are not using a third-party app and the bulb is set up directly through the Google Home app,  contact the device manufacturer for further assistance. They can help check for any recent updates that may be affecting functionality.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Beula

Hi Beula,

I have tried the troubleshooting steps as suggested but the issue still persists. Only showing shades of White for color options (and if try to change light to colors such as 'blue' or 'red' or 'green' via voice commands to Google Nest speaker the speaker mistakenly responds that the device is offline). Here are the steps I have tried:

1. Uninstalled and reinstalled the Google Home iOS app.

2. Unlinked the smart bulb from the Google Home app.

2.1. Hard-reset the smart bulb.

5. Re-linked the smart bulb to the Google Home app.

6. Contacted bulb manufacturer (AiDot) and received confirmation that there has been no firmware update shipped for these bulbs since November of 2025.

The following steps are not applicable, since like @makataktak I bought Matter bulbs to be able to connect directly to Google Home without using or linking a third-party app:

3. Uninstall and reinstall the third-party app associated with the bulb.

4. Remove one of the bulbs from the third-party app, then set it up again.

Given no recent changes from the manufacturer of my smart bulbs, it seems like it's something on the Google Home app side of things since the loss of functionality aligns closely with the timeline of when Google Home v4.14.53 shipped for iOS... Potentially is a bug with how Google Home is identifying the features/capabilities of Matter smart bulb devices?

Also having this same issue with Govee lights and I've used the wiz lights without the app for two years and am now seeing the color options disappear

Seems to be fixed, at least on iOS, in the Google Home app v4.15.55

Given nothing else changed in the device firmwares, network setup, etc. that does appear to validate that this was a bug in the Google Home app w/ respect to RGBW Matter bulbs. Glad it's fixed for now!

Hey all,

@BeulaA, Thanks for the help.

We fixed an issue that was causing some RBG light controls to be unavailable in the Google Home app. If you haven't done so already, restarting the Google Home app should fix this.

If you're still experiencing this issue, could you let us know?

Best Regards,

Derick.
