PIN changed but not accepted

I need a Google PIN to complete installing a (T-Mobile/TCL TV monitor).  I forgot my PIN, changed it according to Google instructions, but the Google Home app is not accepting the new pin.  I just spent the last 65 minutes being shuttled around Google, but no one seems able to help.
