Philips Hue smart plug called 'speaker' google doesn't understand when I say turn on speaker

I have called my Philips hue smart plug 'speaker' in Google home. When I say Hey Google turn on speaker, Google responds I don't understand or that device is not set up yet. I don't have anything else called speaker in my home (I changed the names) I'm in the same room as the outlet when I say turn on speaker. If I say turn on outlet it works every time.

Hi DanielGrey,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry that you're having trouble when you talk to your Philips Hue smart plug called speaker. I understand how frustrating this can be. I'm here to help.

It looks like you might be running into some trouble because your Philips Hue smart plug, called "speaker," doesn't understand when you talk to the Google Assistant. To help avoid confusion and make sure everything works smoothly, it's a good idea to give each of your devices a unique name; please try to change the name.

Here's why unique names are helpful:

  • App Confusion: When you use an app that controls multiple devices, having the same name can cause the app to get confused about which device you want to control.
  • Voice Assistant Issues: If you use a voice assistant like Google Home or Alexa, it might not be able to understand which device you're referring to if they have the same name.
  • Device Mismatch: If you have a smart home setup, having devices with the same name can lead to unexpected behavior or even prevent certain features from working correctly.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Regards,

Kevin

Hi Kevin thanks for your reply, you might have missed that I mentioned I have nothing else in my house named speaker. I changed the names of my Google nest speakers to Audio. Do you have any other ideas?

Hi DanielGrey,

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. Let's work together for a solution.

I understand that you have already changed the names of the devices, but remember that the Google Home app has commands for many smart devices, and even if you have changed the names of the devices, it will understand that you want to turn off a speaker and not your Philips Hue smart plug.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Kevin

Hi Kevin

Sounds like your saying it's not possible to call an smart plug "speaker" and have it turn on and off.
