Presence detection problem

Franparis

Hello

I'm having trouble with Google Home's presence detection. When I go to Settings -> Presence detection, it correctly shows that i'm away in "your current location", but this isn't reflected on the app's home screen (i'm still listed as home). As a result, the routines that are supposed to activate when i'm away aren't triggering.

Any idea ?

Thanks !

Hi @Franparis,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you’re experiencing issues with Google Home presence detection. Specifically, while the app correctly detects that you are "Away," the home status isn't updating, which results in it still showing as “Home” mode. This prevents your Away routines from triggering. I appreciate your confirmation about presence detection correctly identifying your current location. No worries; I'm happy to look into this with you.

To help me narrow this down, I’d like to ask you a few questions:

  • Which Nest devices do you have in the home structure that isn’t switching? (Such as cameras, thermostats, doorbells, etc.)
  • Is the Google Home app running on its latest version?
  • Have you verified that your Home location is accurate within the Google Home app? To check it: Open the Google Home app > Home settings > name of your home > Home address.
  • When did your first notice the issue?
  • Do you have pets and Nest Protect devices? Nest Protect sensors often pick up motion from pets, which can prevent your home from switching to Away mode after you leave.
  • Is your mobile device operating system up to date?
  • Besides checking the presence detection, have you tried any other troubleshooting steps so far? If so, could you please list them?

I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Stephanie
