Ring indoor chime, unable to save settings.

I upgraded my chime transformer to a 16v - 30VA one. I still get a message "unable to save settings" in Google Home when I turn on "Ring indoor chime". So, the mechanical indoor chime does not work. Everything else works just fine with this Google Nest Doorbell (Gen 1). Any suggestions? I am really frustrated at this point, Peter

Do you have a 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell (which gets installed in the Google Nest app) or a 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell (which gets installed in the Google Home app) or a Google Nest Battery Doorbell (which also gets installed in the Google Home app)?

I'm asking because your post says you have a 1st gen doorbell and were trying to turn on the "Ring indoor chime" option in the Google Home app, but it is not possible to access that setting in the Google Home app for the 1st gen doorbell unless you are on the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app AND have "transferred" your 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell from the Google Nest app to the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app.

What has happened up to this point? Is this a brand-new doorbell? If not, was it working previously, and what happened? If you disconnect your doorbell and touch the two doorbell wires together, does your indoor chime ring?

If you have a 2nd gen doorbell, you could try deleting and reinstalling the Google Home app. You don't lose any settings; you just log back in with the same Google Account.

All of the 1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells are theoretically supported for "transfer" from the Google Nest app to the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Expanded-support-rolling-out-all-Nest-Cams-can-transfer-...).

However, it is a "Public Preview" version (and has been so since Nov. 2022), and as such, according to Google Nest, "you may encounter issues while using this experience. It may not perform as well as the standard app, but you can provide feedback for improvements. You can opt-out of Public Preview at any time, but we do not provide the ability to turn off individual features."

My understanding is that your "transferred" doorbell is no longer accessible in the Google Nest app. However, as noted in the link above (towards the bottom), you are supposed to be able to transfer your doorbell BACK to the Google Nest app. Once you do so, you should once again have access to the "Indoor chime" option. (It's still there for our untransferred Nest Hellos.)

I have a Google Nest 1st gen doorbell (Wired) and setup with the Nest App then transferred to Google Home. The doorbell/camera work excellent. Before I setup the Google apps, by indoor chime would work pressing the Nest doorbell. Once I downloaded and installed the Google Next then Google Home apps, the indoor chime ceased to work. (BTW, the doorbell was gifted to me). I then bumped up my old transformer to a 16v - 30va type and still no indoor chime. That is when I opened the Home app and tried to turn on the "Ring indoor chime" but could not save setting. How do I get the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app?

@peterkane52

I do not understand your situation or what has happened in your case.  You say you "transferred" your 1st gen Nest Hello "to Google Home".  I don't know what you mean by that.  You can only "transfer" 1st gen cameras and doorbells to the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app, which you indicate you do NOT have.  I don't know what you mean by "downloaded and installed the Google Next then Google Home apps."  You say you "opened the Home app and tried to turn on the 'Ring indoor chime', but that setting does not even exist UNLESS you have "transferred" your 1st gen doorbell to the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app, which, again, you say you do NOT have.  If you do NOT have the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app, then you have to turn the "Indoor chime" option on in the Google Nest app.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not following what's happened in your situation.  Perhaps you should consider contacting Support, where you can explain more fully what's happened in your case:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

If you want the "Public Preview" version, you'll have to go to Settings | Public Preview in the Google Home app and ask to be invited, but I don't think that willl address your situation.

P.S.  If by some chance you actually are on the "Public Preview" version and HAVE "transferred" your 1st gen Nest Hello doorbell from the Google Nest app to the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app, and have discovered that an update to the "Indoor chime" option cannot be saved in that version, this might be a defect of the "Public Preview" version.  Our Nest Hello Doorbells are NOT on the "Public Preview" version, and we still access the "Indoor chime" option only in the Google Nest app.

Sorry I misstated that, I transferred Google Nest app to Google Home. Yes, camera and doorbell work fine using Gen 1 Google Nest Hello doorbell. Also you quoted me, I don't know what you mean by "downloaded and installed the Google Next then Google Home apps." Yes, to my Android phone. Thank you for the info, I did join the "Public Preview", so thanks for the heads up that the Nest Hello Doorbell are not supported, Bummer!!  I will check out the Nest app today, I haven't seen the option for "Indoor chime" there before. Thank you!
