Set up but didn’t work

Set up google home to run presence sensing on away but after leaving home for 30 minutes the app still showed us as being at home still.

Any ideas why this would be?

Hey MioandZola,

 

A few questions: how many home members do you have in your home structure. Please check the guide below:

 

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Select Presence Sensing > enable Allow this home to use phone locations.
  3. Once enabled, the Home app shows all devices allowed to set the home structure’s status.
  4. If there’s an issue with a customer’s location status, they can manually change their current location to Home or Away under the name of their phone. This helps improve the device presence sensing.
    Note: If the customer opted out of Presence sensing, the Home or Away option for each device is disabled.

There are two people in home group. Both persons phones are setup correctly with location turned on.

Hello there,

 

Thanks for letting us know. Are you both out of the house or someone staying at home? Give these additional steps a try:

 

  • Turn on the geofence toggle in the Nest App or Home App, as well as at the OS level.
  • Leave the geofence. Confirm in the appropriate app’s history to verify the activity was recorded.
  • Turn off the geofence toggle in the Nest or Home app while outside the geofence.
  • This step resets them to Away permanently and allows the automation to work for everyone else in the home.

We are both out the house. I do not understand when you say geofence. I can't locate a toggle that states that in either the Home or Nest apps.

Hi MioandZola,

 

Sorry for the confusion. Geofencing uses the location of your phone to decide if you are home at your address or not. Check if all permissions are enabled for the Google Home app. To cover all our bases, try creating new routines.
