Smart plug device persistently offline

Issue category was not listed.

I have a device (Gosund Smart Plug- Grandma's lamp) that is connected to and can be controlled by Smartlife.  Smart Life is linked to Google Home.  Google Home says plug/light is offline. How do I get it online in Home?

Hi @dalemwebb,

Thank you for your timely post and the comprehensive information you've provided. I understand that you are encountering some offline issues with your Gosund Smart Plug on the Google Home app, and you are able to control the Smart Plug on the main app. I'm here to help you and find a solution together.

To assist you further, please attempt the following questions:

  • Have you experienced any power outages in your area?
  • Are both your Google Home app and smartphone operating system up to date?
  • Can the action be performed with the Google Assistant voice command?
  • Is the SmartLife app up to date?
  • What are the troubleshooting steps you've already tried? If so, which steps have you tried already?

In the meantime, you can try these steps:

  • Hey Google, or Ok Google, then. Sync my plugs.

Please keep me posted and let me know how it goes.

Warm regards,

Jeremy.

  • Have you experienced any power outages in your area? None that I know of
  • Are both your Google Home app and smartphone operating system up to date?  I update maniacally.
  • Can the action be performed with the Google Assistant voice command?  No.  Gemini says "offline."
  • Is the SmartLife app up to date?  Yes.
  • What are the troubleshooting steps you've already tried?  Reset and  reinstalled smart plug.

I have a screenshot, but evidently you will not allow an upload.  Here is the text:

Living Room Lights
4 lights
Christmas lights- OFF

Grandma's Lamp- OFFLINE
Kitchen light- OFF

Plant light- OFF

Am using Samsung OneUI 7 (Android 15) and devices are attached to a local network by wifi.

Really frustrated with Google Home.

Uninstalled GH, cleared phone cache, reinstalled GH.

Tried to re-link "works with Google" devices/apps

Eufy Security- broken link

Govee Home- couldn't connect

Lennox thermostat- connected

LG ThinkQ- connected after about half hour of playing around with passwords

Smart Life- Couldn't connect

TP-Link routers- Connected

Wyze home- Connected

Will probably delete GH and wait for fixes. Devices currently work with Assistant/Gemini through their own interfaces.

Thanks for the hep.

Hi dalemwebb,

Thank you for your response. I understand how frustrating this can be. I really appreciate the effort to troubleshoot this situation. Let's work together to find a solution.

Another suggested step you might try is:

Set nicknames for your smart plugs; here are the steps:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Favorites or Devices, then select the plug, then the Settings icon, and then Name.
  • Enter a name and then tap Save.
  • Check its new nickname.

Note: Nicknames are alternate ways to call plugs in the Google Home app. The nicknames assigned to plugs in the Google Home app aren't reflected in the SmartThings app.

Also try to assign the smart plugs to rooms for better control; then you can rename the rooms. Here are the steps:

  • On the mobile device, open the Google Home app.
  • Tap the name of the room to change.
  • Tap the Settings icon, Name, then enter a name, and then Save.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Byron

Every time I try to pair Smart Life with GH, I get: "Unable to communicate with Google right now. Please wait. . . " Going to try again. Deleted my Home from GH. Deleted GH from phone and watch. Will reinstall and see what happens. Anything else I need to do to make sure there is no trace of GH on either device?

Still get a broken link when trying to pair with Eufy. Any way to overcome?

Did NOT try the above steps. Trying to start over from scratch.

You guys are screwing up all kinds of things. Now my calendar app (Rainlender) can't find my Google BIRTHDAY calendar (from Contacts). You got to straighten this stuff out.

As I said, "Deleted my Home from GH. Deleted GH from phone and watch."

Before I reinstall, I just want to be certain there are no remnants of either program on either device.  THEN I will reinstall, and, if problems, try your steps.

If you don't want to make sure that I get that done, just let me know and I'll quit communicating.

HOW DO I MAKE SURE THERE ARE NO REMNANTS OF ASSISTANT OR GH ON MY WATCH OR PHONE BEFORE I REINSTALL, SO I CAN DO A PRISTINE INSTALL?

Hi dalemwebb,

Thank you for posting.

Just only remove the Google Home app, and depending on your phone, if the Google Assistant is already pre-installed, try to delete the cache, then the data, and all your settings will be removed from the Google Assistant.

Let me know how it goes.

Deleted all traces of GH and Assistant (as best I could).  Reinstalled GH and set us as new.  Got my hubs set up OK.  Think I can get my mini-hubs up and running OK

Got Govee Home, Smart Life, and Wyze Home paired.  Haven't been able to pair LG Home or Eufy home.  Problem in GH or Eufy and LG Home?

Nest Connect  and NestXYale lock HAVE TO BE THE WORST PRODUCTS EVER INVENTED. Been trying to add to GH all morning.  GH tells me to use Nest app.  No longer ON Nest app.  Trying to add it back to the Nest app.  Follow the destructions carefully.  Got it added to my network, but when I run connectivity check, the light NEVER goes green.  Reset several times and tried again.  Still no.  Should I FACTORY RESET the device?

ALSO, my Nest Protect devices (all 7 of them) do not show up in GH.  Whadda I do for that?

ABSOLUTELY, HOOKING UP GH SHOULDN'T BE THIS HARD.  EVIDENTLY STILL NEED A LOTTA WORK.

Hi dalemwebb,

Thank you for your response and updates. I appreciate the patience on this. Help's here.

  • Please try to add the LG Home and Eufy Home to a different room (or add another home structure) and try to pair. Please follow the previous steps provided.
  • In order to be able to connect the Nest x Yale Lock and Nest Connect, please do the factory reset for both and then try to connect them to the Nest App. Here is a good article on how to factory reset the Nest x Yale Lock.
  • Also, for your Nest Protects, those can only be viewed on your Nest app.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Byron

This is not helpful. Need to FACTORY RESET the Nest Connect device.
Plug Connect into a power outlet.
Hold down Connect’s button until the light turns solid YELLOW then goes out. Did that. Light never came back on. NOW WHAT?

Finally got Eufy Security and LG Home paired with GH.  A little disappointed in the speed of showing Eufy camera images.  Usually takes a long time to display and frequently fails, even on a strong, fast wifi network.

Still need help with above question and "finding" my Nest devices.  If you tell me I have to climb a ladder and scan the codes on the Nest Protect devices, I think I'll scream.

Hi dalemwebb,

Thank you for your response. I appreciate the detailed information. Help's here.

In order to properly restart your Nest Connect, please do the following:

  • Plug Connect into a power outlet.
  • Hold down Connect’s button until the light pulses blue (about 7 seconds). Then, release the button.
  • Wait for Connect’s light to turn green, which means the restart is complete.
  • Check whether your Connect and Detects come back online in the app.

Important: If you hold Connect’s button for much longer than 8 seconds, the light will turn yellow, which means your Connect is preparing to factory reset. To prevent this, after the light turns yellow, immediately release the button and then press the button once more to cancel the factory reset.

Let me know how it goes and keep me posted.

Doesn't work.  Holding in the button 8 seconds > pulse blue a couple of times > immediately YELLOW.  Never turns any other color.  I've held the button until I'm blue in the face, much longer than 10 seconds and CANNOT get it to factory reset, either.
