TCL tv unable to be added to a room in Google Home App

I have recently purchased a TCL (model: 43C655) with Google TV. The TV set up worked fine and operates on its own. I have the Google Home apple downloaded on my device. I am wanting to add the TV as a device to my “room” in order to automate routines. It only appears as a “local device” and there does not seem to be any option to “add to room” or “invite” etc. At this stage I have reconnected wifi, fully unplugged the tv etc etc. I have not done a factory reset yet - not wanting to lose any settings I have done if there is another fix. Any help is much appreciated .

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • Are you using the latest version of the Google Home app?
  • Is your mobile device connected to the same WiFi network as your TCL (model: 43C655) with Google TV?
  • Are you using the same Google account in the Google Home app as your TCL (model: 43C655) with Google TV?
  • Could you please check if the local network of your mobile device is turned on for the Google Home app? 

To check if the local network of your mobile device is turned on for the Google Home app, please follow the next instructions:

  • Go to your mobile device settings.
  • Tap on Privacy, 
  • Select “Local Network.” It will display the list of apps that you have on your mobile device.
  • Select the Google Home app and turn on the local network.
