TP-Link devices removed

bananaslug79

This is driving me crazy. I have two removed devices from TP-Link (partner connection via Works with Google using Kasa Smart) that are long disconnected, one a light switch and the other a light bulb. The devices are removed from the Kasa app and I've reconnected, sync devices, refreshed everything I can via Google Home using the Kasa account but these two devices will not go away.

In the Kasa app, I have 49 devices. In Google Home, it shows the linked Kasa account with 51 devices. The option to Reconnect the account does not help, and I'd like to avoid the Unlink option though I have a feeling that won't help either. Any suggestions?

Hi bananaslug79,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

This is not the experience that we wanted you to have, let me help you out. You can clear the cache and data on your Google Home app from your phone settings. Once done, observe if this will make a difference. If it’s the same, you can uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

Juni

Hello Juni,

Thanks for the response and suggestions. I know it's not an app issue with Google Home as I access the same home and set of devices from multiple sources (i.e. more than one phone). At this point the linked devices that have been removed from TP-Link have finally dropped off in Google Home, so your cache and data clearing suggestions do offer some accuracy.

The problem at this point is all of my Nest Hub displays will not update and remove these devices. This is extra problematic in certain rooms as lights are always linked together, and the removed lights still show on all these displays and give an error when you try to control the existing lights (whether by voice or touch on the displays). I don't know how to sync/fix the Nest displays to properly reflect devices that have been removed from TP-Link.

Thanks.

Hi bananaslug79,

Thanks for the details you provided. You can try to do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest Hubs for 30 seconds, then do the same thing on your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Juni

OK, thanks for the procedure. This will take me some time as there are four Nest Hubs in the house, plus my wife is working from home today so dropping the Wi-Fi is not ideal at the moment. I will let you know how it goes.

Hi there,

Thanks for the response. Sure thing. I’ll keep this thread open for 3 more days and wait for your update.

Looking forward to your follow up.

Regards,

Juni

Juni,

I just finished your sequential reboot series, unfortunately the same issue exists after everything powered back up. In the places where I've removed light devices from TP-Link, our Nest displays _still_ show them despite the lights being gone.

What now?

Hi folks,

@Juni, thanks for the help.

@bananaslug79, I really appreciate you doing the steps provided. It would be of help if you can check this link, https://goo.gle/39bRKpn. If you are using the same account as where your 3rd party devices are linked to, you can see those on the "your devices" page and from there, remove or unlink it.

Tell me how it goes.

Best,

Dan

Hello Dan,

Thanks for the suggestion. The devices on that page are not showing those linked through TP-Link. To be clear, I'm using the Works with Google connection through Google Home to integrate devices from TP-Link (Kasa Smart). As far as I know, this is only available through the app.

In the Google Home app, it shows Kasa Smart as linking 51 devices. In the Kasa app however, there are only 49 devices still available (the minus two being the ones I've removed from Kasa). As I've mentioned earlier, the most vexing aspect of this is the missing Kasa devices don't show in the Google Home app anymore, just on all our Nest displays throughout the house.

Thanks.

I know how hard it is knowing that the devices are still showing up even though they’re unavailable anymore. It would really be of big help if we do a reset on your Nest Hub to revert it back to its default and original settings. Using the same account, set it back up and observe if it still shows those unavailable devices.

Regards,

Dan

I haven't had any additional troubleshooting time for this. It sure seems like an account sync issue, but I'm not sure how best to solve it. I'll keep trying, thanks.
