Hey everyone,

As the smart home industry evolves toward openness and collaboration, it's important to us that our users can build their ideal smart home, with Google products and a rich ecosystem of smart home devices. That’s why in late July, we’ll be making software updates to Nest Hub Max to make sure our users are ready for the upcoming Matter over Thread standard that will enable future compatibility with hundreds of partner devices.

This update will impact connectivity for a small number of Nest x Yale Lock and Nest Detect open/close sensor users that use a Nest Hub Max as the sole method to connect their lock to Wi-Fi, or as a range extender for either their lock or sensors.

Nest x Yale Locks and Nest Detects do not connect directly to Wi-Fi, but rather through a bridge. This enables these devices to last longer on batteries and enjoy extended range. The majority of Nest x Yale Lock and Nest Detect users have a Nest Connect or Nest Guard acting as that bridge, and these users will not be affected by the update.

Some users, however, may be using a Nest Hub Max as the bridge, or as a range extender between their Nest x Yale Lock or Nest Detect and other bridge devices such as a Nest Connect or Nest Guard.

Once this software update rolls out, Nest Hub Max will no longer support bridging or range extension. At that time, users whose locks are connected to Wi-Fi via a Nest Hub Max, or that are out of range of their Nest Connect or Nest Guard will not be able to lock or unlock their door with the Nest app. Users will still be able to lock and unlock the door using the keypad on the Nest x Yale Lock. Nest Detects that are out of range of Nest Connect or Nest Guard will not be able to connect to Wi-Fi and report their status in the Nest app.

If you’re affected by this change, here’s what you can do:

  • If your lock or open/close sensor goes offline, please make sure your Nest Connect or Nest Guard is moved within range (up to 50 feet away, but the range can vary depending on your home’s construction, wireless interference and other factors).

  • If you currently use Nest Hub Max to connect your Nest x Yale Lock to Wi-Fi and do not own a Nest Connect or Nest Guard, you will receive an email from Nest in mid June with instructions to obtain a Nest Connect.

If you need further assistance, please feel free to give us a call or chat

Hello,

I recently (last week) set up my Yale lock using my Hub Max as a bridge. How can I make sure I'm on the mailing list to redeem the Nest Connect?

Thanks,

Matt

We cannot get the Yale Lock to connect to our phones. I have tried everything and it does not work. I am using a Google Pixel 6, with Google Mesh Internet. It's the only Google product that I have had problems with.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

My nest Yale lock went offline yesterday and I'm using a nest connect that is only 5 feet away. A bit frustrating. Only thing I can think of the updates and changes made have caused an issue. Been using it for a year and half without issue until Sunday.

DISASTER OF AN APP

Immediately:

- Add a scrollable vertical timeline with events of the type that we filter. (like the nest app)

- Add a smoothly scrollable vertical 24/7 timeline from iOS, iPadOS, nest home hub

 - Add ability to save clips on iOS, iPadOS, Nest Home Hub

- Remove this stupid “turn off camera” button blocking the view of the camera from the iOS and iPadOS app. Why would this be a button you’d think people would need over the ability to easily view history/save videos?!

- Allow keeping the camera views up 24/7 instead of timing out and returning to the Google Home main screen!

-Allow the event history view to remember what filters were previously chosen like the old nest app!

- Add ability to access history easily from main camera view (Really?!? Hide history 2 layers deep in the UI?)

we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app. This will take time to get right, and we will continue to share more details as we have updates.

We are listening to your feedback and will continue to make improvements to advance the camera experience in the Home app. For example, we’ll soon introduce the ability to flip between events quickly and easily, which is helpful for events that are far apart, or if you only want a glimpse of the events versus playing them back fully. And we’ve also been working on rolling out a desktop experience for the Google Home app, so the new Nest cameras and doorbell feeds can be viewed and controlled from there. This will launch in 2022. ”

ITS BEEN A YEAR. WHERE IS THIS FUNCTIONALITY?!?

There was a beautifully designed nest app for cameras and you didn’t even consider what was good about it and keep what was good?

The new app is terrible because it’s missing essential functionality! This is beyond frustrating. Beyond the frustration of a 2 app experience. Your delivery of apps to meet your new hardware launch doesn’t meet the mark and your lack of an IQ camera replacement is beyond terrible!  Provide us a 5mp camera with excellent motion night-vision at a competitive price!

FIX THE NEST APP SO WE CAN USE IT IN THE MEAN TIME.

If you aren’t going to roll out these new features in a timely manner, Fix the old Nest app so our accounts aren’t logged out every 2-4 hours On iPad, forcing us to have to re-login or use the new home app. This renders it worthless!!

Our company is recommending everyone go with Reolink. Recommending to avoid Google products altogether until this is fixed!

Sure glad Google is cancelling the Nest Guard we were using for this with our Yale Lock, and continuing to improve our user experience and substantial investments in their smarthome "vision"...  /s

I will never buy another Google product again.  I can no longer rely on them as a technology partner to do what's right for their customers.

I currently use Nest Secure.  I understand that Secure is going away in April, but the partnership with Brinks (who monitors Nest Secure) ends in December, so I need to move to a different security system before December 31 to maintain monitoring capability.

I need to know how I can get a Nest Connect before January / February, so I can get rid of my Nest Secure in December, move to a new system with monitoring, and still have control over my door locks.

All four of my nest Yale locks are offline. Yes I checked the connect. It has been working fine FOR FIVE YEARS and it quit yesterday. Don’t tell me to reset my deco mesh network I already did

I’ve already dumped my Google cameras, went offline, you screwed me out of my $1500 security system, I dumped my pathetic Google WiFi due to issues

I hope to hell you have a fix other than reboot.  I swear I’m gonna sue for defective products if this isn’t fixed

what a pitiful company
