Hey everyone,

We're designing the Google Home app for the future of the smart home — a single place to set up, manage, automate, and control thousands of compatible devices in your home. The latest update builds on experiences from Android home controls and Google Nest smart displays to deliver seamless interactions across your home.

Simpler, more helpful controls

The way you control and interact with your devices is getting better. Over the next few weeks, we are rolling out some new controls on the home view that make it easier to control your connected devices with fewer taps. Android users will notice a familiar experience to the smart home controls that launched with Android 11.

On both Android and iOS, the new controls help you quickly find and understand the status of the devices in your home so you can dim your compatible lights or change the music volume in a snap. You can also tap to turn a device on or off, slide left or right to make adjustments, and long press for more controls.

Privacy settings

This week, check out Google Home app Settings to see new privacy settings. In this centralized entry point to managing your privacy, you can review and adjust your privacy controls, home activity and Assistant data settings right in the app.

Manage your household’s settings, including presence sensing to control which devices can help detect if someone’s home in order to start Home & Away routines. Browse your data, including your home activity and your data in the Assistant. Learn about privacy on your shared devices, Google Privacy & Security Principles, and Nest Privacy & Security commitments in the home.

Coming soon

Later this month, we will make improvements to the home feed to help you better understand what’s happening in and around your home. The update automatically sorts your home’s recent and most important events in an updated clutter free layout. Grouped events will help you understand what happened around the same time instead of scrolling through a list of repetitive events.

We hope you enjoy these new updates! Let us know what you think of the new home view in the comments section.

Google Nest. I am tired of waiting for you guys to fix the Google Home App.  You guys made several promises well over a year ago and to date you haven’t fixed them. You charge me for 24/7 recording but I can only download what you dictate to me I can download!  No other service does this. Either get it fixed or I am going to start filing complaints with the FCC and Texas Attorney Generals Office.  In addition I have started an inquiry to see if this is class action lawsuit material. You guys are not keeping your promises and your charging customers for something then not providing access.

I agree with @Elliot_Kramer, and just bring back the functionality of the Nest App (phone and web). We have been happy for 6+ years and last fall purchased a "new camera." Under the IT NEVER OCCURED there would be backward functionality -- you can't download clips/timelapse with this cameras, yet MUST move to Google and you can't go back to NEST if you do!

We are on iPhones/ecosystem and have much invested in NEST Cams and no four worthless battery cams. Will there be improvement and enhancements, or is our rah rah and sharing the good news about NEST cams come to an end?

Hopefully some bug fixes as well. Changing PPPOE settings shouldn’t require a factory reset but if you need more info about bugs here is link

How about updating Google Home so it can activate Google devices? My Google Nest is an expensive paperweight at the moment, and apparently it's because Google stole intellectual property from some company called Sonos. Just pay for the patent or stop selling the Nest!

I found a new bug.

When I set up port forwarding it shows the Name, IP, and MAC address of the machine.

I recently replaced the motherboard in a machine, but kept the Name and IP the same.

When I look at port forwarding it shows the old MAC address.  I've rebooted the machine and Google Wifi.

When I delete the forwarding and add it back in it shows the correct MAC on the addition page, but when it adds it shows the old MAC again.

I was only able to get things to work after spoofing the old MAC address.

But if I connect the old motherboard to the network things are going to get angry.

There should be a way to force update/refresh, or edit, the MAC address.

There should also be a Note field on the port forwarding so I can label what that port is for.

Perhaps concentrate on getting the basics right first. Your system has been flawed for years and none of those flaws have been fixed. Clearly you don't use your own products. I'd happily provide you with my UX expertise for free as it's just infuriating.

@Doyouhearme I couldn't say it better. Google home seems like an unfinished highschool science project. Good idea but full of flaws and bugs.

@Doyouhearme @Poyetas have you guys seen the latest update or what?? The UX is insanely good...

Stop complaining for nothing when they're clearly putting the effort into making the app better by making drastic changes to the UI and UX

@neil_rahmouni  how do you know?  Have they improved the camera management at all?  Regardless it’s taken them way way to long.

@Chrisn997 because they keep showing the new app everywhere, and also because anyone can register to the preview version of the redesign.

Depends on what you mean by management. The update I'm talking about is only a massive UI/UX revamp. Although it improves a lot of stuff for the cameras (such as showing the feed of some of them directly in the list of devices)

@neil_rahmouni @You have a link for that preview. I just want the same functionality as I have with my nest cameras. That I all I have been asking for.

@Chrisn997 there is an article on 9to5google about it here: https://url.rahmouni.dev/t3cT

Very much looking forward to any improvements whatsoever on the Google Home app because it is a nightmare. I thought Alexa was a little overzealous and didn't care for the Fire OS. So I changed my entire home to a Google Home and the only big complaint I have is the app itself for Home. So I'm really looking forward to these improvements!

A year later and the mobile app still sucks and the web app is nearly useless. Why did I ever invest in 2nd generation Nest cameras? Give us back our Nest functionality!

Thank you for the update Leticia!

Will this update fix the issue with Google Home/Nest/Chromecast/TV no longer displaying YouTube video options?

Until about a year ago, if you asked "Hey Google, show me Youtube videos of relaxing ocean waves",  Our Google Home system would respond with " OK, showing YouTube Videos of relaxing ocean waves. Which one would you like?" and then, turn on the TV and at the bottom of the TV screen, there would be a list of various YouTube videos on the topic, listed by number with a small image of the video. You would then respond, "Number 3" and that YouTube video would begin playing.

Now,.....for about a year or so,....you ask the question, Google Mini responds, asking which one I would like,.....BUT..it has NOT turned on the TV,......so it is NOT displaying the list of videos that it wants me to pick from.    If I call out a random number "Number 5"  it will only THEN TURN ON THE TV AND BEGIN PLAYING VIDEO NUMER 5.  The menu of choices that it asked me to pick from, was never actually displayed.

This was a great feature of the Google Home/Chromecast/TV smart home,...when will it be fixed?
