7 Nest 1st Gen Cameras

I sign in with Nest, not Google. Does it cost $6 a month total, or $42 a month total to sign up for Nest Aware?

@elgjr

It depends what Nest Aware subscription you have. The 1st gen Nest Aware subscriptions are per-camera, while the Nest Aware and Nest Aware Plus subscriptions started a couple of years ago cover all Google Nest cameras and doorbells in the same Google Nest "home/structure". If you had 7 individual 1st gen subscriptions, I guess it could be $42/month (I don't know the current pricing for 1st gen subscriptions; we have the Nest Aware Plus subscription.)

If you still have access to the first generation Nest Aware, which looks to be the case, the cost depends on what video history tier you have or are intending to use. First generation subscriptions could choose from 5, 10 or 30 day 24/7 video recording and the cost is based on a per camera basis:

  • 5 day recording: $50/year or $5/mth. Additional cameras are $30/year or $3/mth
  • 10 day recording: $100/year or $10/mth. Additional cameras are $50/year or $5/mth
  • 30 day recording; $300/year or $30/mth. Additional cameras are $150/year or $15/mth

With seven cameras, your annual base tier (5-day recording) cost would be $230/year.

In this scenario, it is more cost effective to switch to the second generation “Nest Aware Plus” service with (10 day) 24/7 recording which would cover all your cameras for $120/year or $12/mth. Just keep in mind some of the differences between the first and second generation subscriptions. Also note that if you move to the second generation service, you cannot go back to the first generation service at all.

Got lots of answers, including from Google, that CONFLICT. Don’t want to go with one only to be wrong. It was a simple question. I have 7 1st gen NEST cameras, simple, no NEST AWARE subscription. If I migrate to Google, and now sign up for NEST AWARE, will my bill be $6 per month for my whole system and not some fee based on number of cameras. The problem is once you go Google, you can never go back. I am leery of Google in the first place and would like to find a written policy that covers my question, not some related discussion that is not to the point. Thanks for your interest and I will stop pursuing this if I don’t get a clear answer soon.

Hi there,

I’m sorry for the confusion here. Migrating your Nest account to Google lets you sign up for the 2nd gen Nest Aware plan. Furthermore, there are two tiers of pricing for Nest Aware which can be paid monthly or annually. Subscriptions start at just $6/month (or $60/year, with a $12 annual savings) across all the Nest cameras, doorbells, speakers, and displays in one home. Nest Aware Plus unlocks more days of event video history and 10 days of 24/7 video history for just $12/month (or $120/year, with a $24 annual savings). Check out this guide and let us know if you need more help: Get to know Nest Aware's pricing and options.

Thanks,

JT
