Add New Nest Cam

I have four cameras that have worked fine in the Nest app for a few years.  I just bought a fifth camera and I now realize Google has blocked new cameras from being added to the Nest app.  That's fine (although I don't understand why) but my problem I'm now getting alerts from two different apps?  How do I get to the functionality that is ONLY in the Nest app?  Seems very poorly thought out.

@fking29

The newer cameras and doorbells that work ONLY in the Google Home app send their notifications through the Google Home app, while older cameras and doorbells that work in the Google Nest app send their notifications through the Google Nest app. We've had a battery camera for 16 months now and have been stuck getting notifications from 2 different apps for 16 months, waiting for Google Nest to bring everything together into one app.

Thanks for the response. It’s just unfortunate they would block adding in the Nest app before merging everything in the Home app.  Very poor strategy on this.

@fking29

Yeah, they're 16 months late (and counting) for adding them fully to the Google Home app.

By the way, in the last month or so, Google Nest has made available a beta/preview website, home.google.com, where both old and new cameras and doorbells can be live-streamed. There is no access to history, at least not yet.

I appreciate the reach out but no, the problem is not solved. I still have to go through two apps to access all features.

Hey fking29,

Thanks for getting back to us. I know where you're coming from. We don't have any news to share about controlling or setting up the new versions of Nest Cameras through the Nest app. I'd suggest you send feedback about your concern using this form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this after 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

Regards,

Emerson

Hi there,

Thank you for your feedback on this, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest cams in the Nest app like you may be used too. However, you can now use the Google Home web app to view your cameras and doorbells.

The new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support.

Best regards,

Brad
