Alexa notification with 1st gen Nest Hello doorbell?

I have a 1st gen wired Nest Hello and a bunch of Amazon Echo speakers. Is there a way to get a notification on the speakers when someone pushes the doorbell? I searched high and low and it seems all of the instructions are for the 2nd gen Nest doorbells.

I just installed a 1st generation Google Nest video doorbell at my new home.  I spent all day trying to link it with my Echo Show.  Yes, you can link them but that is as far it goes.  The only thing you can do is enable the camera or not.  No doorbell notifications.  No video feed.  Just enable or not. When I did ask my Echo Show to show me the front door it did so once after trying for over a minute to connect and then never connected again.  With whatever changed in September, I think the first generation Google Nest video doorbells are no longer supported by Alexa.  I am very disappointed because I need to be able to see who is at the front door.  I tried multiple times via Alexa and then Google and ended up with the same results.  I deleted the links since they did not work.  I will have to use the Nest app to see who is at the front door.

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, is your Do not Disturb turned on? Is your account migrated?

Give these steps a try:

1. Launch your Alexa app on your mobile device and sign in with your Amazon account

2. In the Alexa app, open the upper left menu by tapping the three horizontal bars icon and select Add device.

3. Select your Nest Doorbell.

4. When asked for the brand of your product, select Google Nest.

5. You'll find Connect your Nest Doorbell Alexa and four steps. At the bottom of the page, click Continue.

  • This will open a Google sign in screen. This is the same sign in you used when you migrate your account.

6. There will be a screen that shows all of your devices and you can choose which devices to control with Alexa. Use the blue toggle to enable the products you want to connect.

7. Select Accept.

  • There will be a screen in the Alexa app that says Skill has been successfully linked:
  • To close the window, you will press Done.

8. The next screen will say Discover Devices. Click on the blue Discover devices button in the bottom right corner.

  • If successful, Alexa app will show a screen saying discovering devices.
  • Once connected, you’ll find a success screen with your connected devices. You'll be able to use Alexa with your Nest product.

Emerson

I'm using Alexa 2.2.571089 on iOS 17.1. The steps I see are significantly different. My step 5 says "Download Google Nest app and use the instructions provided to add the device. Make sure Partner Connections and granted for Amazon Alexa. Return to the Alexa app and press Next."

I was able to successfully add my 1st gen wired Nest Hello doorbell, but it shows up as a camera and I do not get any Alexa notifications when the button is pressed. My Do Not Disturb is turned off.

Hey everyone,

@AL1024, I’m chiming in to ensure you’ve got the answer you’re looking for.

Alexa doorbell announcements are only supported on the Nest Doorbell (battery) and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). You can find more information here on how to control Google Nest products with Amazon Alexa.

Reach out if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the help, Emerson.

Best,

Lance
