Bad camera image outdoors

I use the Nest 1st gen. Indoors, the image on the camera is clear and easy to see. But outdoors, the camera just can't get a good image. It can't be the Wi-Fi connection, since the camera works perfectly indoors. The problem wasn't there at first, but it has been recently.

Hi Middelinkie144,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you're having trouble with the camera image quality on your Nest Camera device when it's used outdoors. You mentioned the image is clear and works perfectly when the camera is inside, but when you move it outside, the image becomes poor. I'm here to help!

To find the best solution, I have some questions for you:

  • Could you please confirm which specific model of your Nest Camera you have? Please check out the following link for your reference: Technical specs for Nest cameras and doorbells
  • Have you tried moving your camera to different spots outdoors to see if the image quality changes?
  • Has there been any change to the outdoor environment, like a new light source or a new reflective surface?

Please keep me updated.

Regards,
Juan

Good morning Juan, I think the translation misspelled it. The point is that a good connection to the camera isn't established outdoors, but it is indoors. Outdoors, it's almost impossible to watch the camera live, but indoors it's no problem. This applies to both my wife's iPhone and mine.

Hi Middelinkie144,

Thanks for getting back to me! I understand your Nest Camera connects perfectly well indoors, but when you move it outside, the live feed becomes almost impossible to watch. I'd be glad to help!

To continue addressing this issue, I have some questions:

  • How far is your Nest Camera from the router?
  • What Wi-Fi frequency band is your Nest Camera connected to (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz)?
  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) between your router and your Nest Camera?

I look forward to your response.

Sincerely,
Juan.
