My nest camera is plugged in but says it isn’t connected because of low battery. How can I fix this?

@Mjwalsh

We've had a battery camera for over 3 years, plugged in with the optional power cable, and it's been online and "Live" since being installed, with no low battery.

Are you using the 5-meter or 10-meter optional power cable? Or are you trying to use the 1-meter charging cord that is comes with the camera? Is your power cable plugged in securely in the bottom of the camera and does the power cable feed towards the FRONT of the camera? Are the USB contact points clean and dry? And when you check Settings | Battery for your camera, does it say "Plugged in" with an infinity symbol?

Thank you for your response!!

We had the cameras installed and have used the chords they installed them with. I did notice that it was unplugged from the wall but it still says offline for battery even though it is now plugged in. I thought maybe the extreme cold weather had affected it but the other outdoor cameras are still working just fine.

It is not clear to me whether the 1-meter charging cord is suitable for powering your camera on an ongoing basis; it certainly is not rated for outdoor use.

If your camera was unplugged for awhile and your battery was depleted, you should know that the battery cannot be charged when the temperature is below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius):

Our camera, which is plugged in all the time, is now on its 4th Minnesota winter, and because it is always plugged in the battery has never depleted. It's 2 degrees Fahrenheit right now and the camera is "Live".

Also, as noted in this thread, there seem to be some issues about charging the camera when it is mounted, ad reported in this thread:

Thank you! This was very helpful!

I will try to detach device and see if it will get a charge!
