Bell not ringing on phone etc

Lyndybee
Community Member

I have a battery doorbell mounted on an outside gate, The camera works fine but the bell rings when pushed but I cannot hear it or get notifications that it has been pushed on my phone or the screen on my  hub, so it defeats the object of having it, people ring the bell then walk through the gate & my dog is loose in the garden - this is not good !!! I was advised to buy this one as I would always know when someone rings the bell & I can tell them to wait while I get my dog in. Help please !!!

@Lyndybee

Do you have "Push notifications" and "Visitor announcements" enabled for your battery doorbell?

I pushed the button to have it on but it doesn’t seem to work

I am very disappointed with this doorbell, the whole point of buying it was so I could put it on the locked gate & know when someone rings the bell. The gate is locked as my dog is loose in the garden. The camera makes a noise on my phone & I can see someone on it but it is sometimes slow or not working. I wish aI had bought a Ring doorbell now !! It has to be a battery bell as it is on an outside gate & the salesman assured me I would know when the bell is rung & would be able to talk to the person but I have no idea if anyone is ringing the bell

@Lyndybee

Are your battery doorbell and Nest Hub in the same Google Nest "home/structure"? (Most Google Nest customers probably have only one "home/structure", but it's possible to have more. The "home/structure" name displays on the initial Google Home app screen.

Are your phone, battery doorbell, and Nest Hub on the same Wi-Fi network (the same SSID and password)?

I also have this problem. Did a lot of searching online and I think the battery version does not allow your phone to make a noise when someone presses it. Only a wired door chime or a connected google home audio device will sound. Been hoping there would be an update to include phone noise notification but haven’t seen or heard of any update yet. Disappointing isn’t it.

Yes, very annoying, I told the salesman that sold it to me that I would be putting it on an outside gate away from the house so couldn’t have a wired one, he assured me it would work. So  I now have a doorbell I cannot hear so visitors open the gate & walk in & my dog is loose in the garden. The reason I bought this was to avoid this situation so I am not happy !! I don’t know what I can do now to solve the problem. What is a connected home audio devices, is it something I can use to make it work ?

We have 3 Nest Hello Doorbells, but I think it would be completely astonishing if the battery doorbell was incapable by design of sending a notification to your phone for a doorbell button push.  (There may still be a defect preventing this from working.)

As I mentioned earlier, you need to have "Push notifications" turned on in Settings for your doorbell in order to get a standard notification (through the Google Home app) on your phone when the doorbell button is pushed:

And you need to have "Visitor announcements" turned on in Settings for your doorbell to get visitor announcements on your Nest Hubs, Nest Minis, and Nest speakers:

We have a Nest doorbell, wired. My wife and I have iPhones. We have both stopped receiving notifications when the doorbell rings.

@Stanley3

If you have the Google Nest Hello Doorbell that is older than a year or two, your internal battery may be failing, causing it to go offline for a minute whenever the doorbell button is pressed. See the very long thread (1,000+ replies) below.  The battery in all 3 of our Nest Hellos has failed.

Many thanks.

Hello everyone,

@Lyndybee, you may check your Google Home app or Nest app permissions.

Give these steps a try:

  1. Check the Google Home app or Nest app permissions:
  • For Android users: Go to the phone’s Settings Apps Google Home or Nest Permissions, and make sure Microphone is enabled.
  • For iOS users: Go to the device’s Settings Google Home or Nest Permission, and make sure Microphone is enabled.

        2. Test if the device’s microphone is working.

        3. Open the default voice recorder app or any other app that uses your device’s microphone and test the device’s microphone on the app.

        4. Check if the device is connected to a Bluetooth device that may be serving as the microphone.

        5. Hit this link for more information.

@All, I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. We hope that the information sheds some light on the issue. If you have other questions and concerns, feel free to let me know.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer, Archie and JT.

Regards,
Emerson
