Boot Loop (again, sorry)

Herculainn

Hey, found several posts here about this issue but none seem to have reached solution. They're old enough so I'll try again.

The nest doorbell, wired, probably first gen, is stuck in what seems like a boot loop.

Blue circle turns on, grows brighter, then green led on top flashes and both lights go off.

5 seconds later, the same happens, and loop.

Veen using the camera for years, then suddenly there was bo video. It stopped some time AFTER a potential tmep power cut.

I've tried resetting the wires from the fusebox, tried reset with the pinhole button on the back, and it is doing the same when plugged into a usb charger.

What can we do now?

Thanks, and sorry if there is a post with a solution please link me.

Hi @Herculainn,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear you're going through this with your Nest doorbell. Don't worry, let's work together to fix this. To help me with that, I have a few questions:

  • Did the Nest doorbell work when it was first installed? If yes, how long has it been since installation?
  • Has there been any recent power outage in the area?
  • Has it been exposed to direct sunlight?
  • When you try the reset, can you hear any sound from the doorbell?
  • When you plug the device into a USB charger, what's the status light?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Cheers,
Jonathan

Thanks.

Been in use maybe 2 years.

Could have been a blink of a power out, not for any sustained amount of time.

Not in direct sunlight this time of the year.

There is no sound from the device at all.

Plugging in to usb is the same as the door, exact same boot loop.

What are we looking for with that?

Hi @Herculainn,

Thanks for your response, appreciate the information shared.

Based on the information provided, it seems there might be a power issue with the Nest Doorbell since your device isn't responding to the reset and you can't hear any sound. When you get a chance, please fill out this form. Let me know when you’re finished. We’ll have someone reach out to you via email from there.

Let me know once you submitted the form.

Hi there. Having the exact same issue as you are. Have two of the units (1st gen) and one still good. The other one seem to be on that boot loop. Did you ever get any resolution or an idea how to solve this issue? Thanks in advance for any/all help.

No. Support sent a message with some standard troubleshooting steps (that we can't follow because the thing doesn't turn on) and then ghosted after i said that it didn't help. Looks oike were done for.

Did you by any chance replace the battery on it? I opened mine up to see if tge capacitor was breached or any other indicators for internal damage. Unfortunately couldn't see anything visible. I will possibly end up replacing the battery (it was bit inflated) and see if that do the trick. Thanks so much for the reply. I will update if I have anything new to add.

I got the battery out but don't have replacement. It still does the same without the battery, afaij the battery is just to keep power when the bell is in use?

Disassembly is difficult: screws on back, heat gun to weaken glue then pop off the front cover with pry tool, then there's four more screws and two clips on all four sides to pop (very tough).

These are steps from support. If they don't help, the only recourse they have is warranty (so check that before disassembly)

  1. Delete the Nest Doorbell from the app.
  2. Perform a factory reset on the doorbell
    • Remove the doorbell from its base and press and hold the reset button and the doorbell button for 30 seconds or until the lights turn off after the ring light spins blue and flashes yellow.
  3. Perform the setup of the doorbell again
