I have the plan where I can only view past history for 10 days and only when the camera has picked up activity (if there is no activity, there is just a blank area with nothing at all to see). Here is my issue - on the current recorded view (daytime) my garden gate is open while on the last available view 9 hours previous (at night) it is closed. So someone opened my backyard gate and I have NO video recording of it. I mean.... this is exactly why I have a camera installed viewing my backyard yet the camera didn't activate when someone opened it? Very frustrating. Is there any way to rectify this??

I'm just another Google Nest customer, but there is no Nest Aware subscription that provides only event video history for 10 days.
If you have the Nest Aware Plus subscription (10 days 24/7 video history and 30 days event history) or the older 1st gen subscription (5, 10, or 15 days 24/7 video history), you should have 24/7 video history, and should be able to view the 24/7 video history in between the recorded events. If you have the Nest Aware subscription, you get 30 days of event history. See the Google Nest Help page below:

It is possible for an event to occur without your camera picking it up as a detected event, depending on which exact camera you have and the time of day. For example, our plugged-in battery camera records everything, but does not do a great job of flagging events at night.
To view history in the Google Home app (I don't know what camera you actually have), see:

Hi Sandy, I'm an end user as well. The problem with all cameras systems (not just NEST Cams) is they often miss motion event and never turn on. For that reason I recommend upgrading your nest aware subscription to the PLUS version that records 24/7. I know it means $12/month (instead of $6) but for me it is well worth it. If you had that you would have been able to see what you needed to see. Keep in mind this will use a lot more of your internet "UP" loads so hopefully you have a good internet provider that doesn't charge you when you use more data.
