Can’t restart nest doorbell (wired(

LisaMink

My doorbell camera went offline and stayed offline.  I googled around and followed some bad advice to reset it.  Now it won’t reinstall.  The blue ring light isn’t lit and all I have is a small blinking green light where I believe is supposed to be a small blinking yellow light.  So frustrated!

@LisaMink

Your post says you have a "Nest Doorbell (wired Gen 2)" and that you're using the "Nest app (iOS)", but the "Nest Doorbell (wired Gen 2)" doorbell works only in the Google Home app, while the 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell, which Google Nest is now calling the "Google Nest Doorbell (wired)", works in the Google Nest app.

You can see this Google Nest Help topic for the meaning of lights for various cameras and doorbells: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9268073

Perhaps your attempt at a factory reset did not actually finish. (This is not uncommon .)

See the post below for factory reset (NOT "Restart") instructions for Google Nest cameras and doorbells. You can try to perform the appropriate procedure until it completes for whichever doorbell you have.

If you have the 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbell (AKA "Google Nest Doorbell [wired])", you should press the reset pin and the large doorbell button for at least 10 seconds, until your doorbell chimes and its light ring starts spinning blue, then flashing yellow, and then all the lights turnoff. The factory reset is complete when your camera chimes and the light ring starts pulsing blue.

If you have the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell, you should press the reset pin for at least 12 seconds; at 10 seconds, the status light should blink yellow 4 times and you should hear a countdown tone; at 12 seconds, the status light should be a steady, solid yellow while the doorbell starts the factory reset and you hear a confirmation tone.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response.  Unfortunately that reset didn’t work.  Fast-blinking green light stays on and nothing else happens.  There’s nothing on google support that addresses a fast-blinking green light.

@LisaMink

You could try contacting Support. Hopefully they know what a fast-blinking green light means and whether there's a remedy or you're covered under warranty.

You have to do this to contact Support:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

Hi everyone,

@LisaMink, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. How's it going? Were you able to reach our support team? In case you have the wired 2nd gen, you may follow the steps below to reset it.

To reset:

1. Locate the reset pin hole on the back of the doorbell.

Tip: The reset pin on the Nest Doorbell 2nd gen (wired) is located above the QR code on the back of the doorbell.

2. Insert and hold the pin (you can use an unfolded paperclip or a thumbtack):

  • At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you'll hear a countdown tone.
  • At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the doorbell starts the factory reset, and you'll hear a confirmation tone.

3. Release the button. Your Nest Doorbell will restore to its factory settings.

4. After the factory reset, your doorbell will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.

5. To remove it from the app, open the app, then tap Settings> Remove device> Confirm.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Regards,

Emerson
