That's not good quality control on Google Nest's end.
See this Help topic for wiring diagrams for the 2nd gen two-wire chime connector. Note that the second diagram, entitled "Two Nest doorbells, two chimes", is mislabeled and should say "Two Nest doorbells, one chime, one transformer, and two chime connectors". (I've sent feedback on the incorrect title repeatedly, but they won't fix it. They don't have a two-chime diagram for the 2nd gen doorbell.)
