@Melkor

Do you mean you were unable to install your Nest Mini in the Google Home app? If so, what happened when you tried?

It does connect the the app but it does not to the doorbell, in settings the option is grey out.

@Melkor

I'm confused. What option is greyed out? "Visitor announcements" is the option you use to send announcements to Nest Minis and Nest Hubs:

No, that option is good, I'm referring to the Ring  indoor chime option, I see a message on top that says electronic chimes wont work with your doorbell when it's using battery power., does that mean I cannot use the Nest Mini as a chime?

@Melkor

The message on the screen seems to be worded poorly and is causing a lot of confusion.

The "Indoor chime" option is grayed out and disabled if the battery doorbell is running on battery power and is NOT wired to an indoor doorbell chime. This makes sense because if the doorbell is NOT wired, it cannot ring a wired indoor chime.

The "Visitor announcements" option should work and should NOT be grayed out if the battery doorbell is running on battery power and is not wired to an indoor doorbell chime. This also makes sense because the doorbell communicates with Nest speakers via Wi-Fi and should not depend on the doorbell being wired. If this option is NOT working, as others have also reported, Google Nest has a defect. In fact, in some cases, Google Nest has been selling a battery-powered doorbell together with a Nest Mini.

(By the way, I'm using the U.S. English wording of the "Indoor chime" and "Visitor announcements" options.  Google Nest is using different wording of these options in other languages, which adds to the confusion.)

Hello everyone,

@Melkor, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. How's it going with your Nest Doorbell? Were you able to link it to your Nest Mini?

Give these steps a try:

Newer Nest Doorbell models and other compatible doorbells

     1. Open the Home app .

     2. Touch and hold your device's tile.

     3. In the top right, tap Settings and then your Nest Doorbell.

     4. Turn Visitor announcements on or off.

  • Note: You can also use Do Not Disturb to temporarily turn off visitor announcements for your Google speaker or display.

Nest doorbell (wired, 1st gen)

To turn visitor announcements on:

     1. Open the Nest app.

     2. Touch and hold your device's tile.

     3. Tap Settings and then Visitor announcements. This will take you to the Google Home app.

     4. When asked, follow the onscreen prompts in the Google Home app to complete setup.

To turn visitor announcements off, turn off your display notifications. You can also use Do Not Disturb to temporarily turn off visitor announcements for your Google speaker or display.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.
