Creating a video clip

I pay to stream 24/7 video to the cloud for all my cameras…recently, a 450lb black bear walked down my driveway, entered my garden and came up to my front door…i can watch all of this in my streaming history, but the camera did not create a notification and/or a clip for me to download…and now I’m finding that i cannot manually create a clip for the DNR agent who is attempting to help relocate the bear from our property…i am trying to provide to him a clip of the bear for identification…my old nest cameras installed in the nest software platform allowed this…google does not?

I recently needed to save a clip from my Nest camera.
The workaround I used was to replay the recording on my phone and use the inbuilt screen recording feature on the iPhone.
Not ideal but it works. A simple feature like this should be available but like MplsCustomer said it isn't.

Unfortunately, Google Nest decided that its new cameras and doorbells released starting in the fall of 2021 would work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com website. As a result, the new cameras lack some of the capabilities of our older cameras, like manual creation of clips, the "Enhance" (zoom) feature, and access via a browser on a computer.

Google Nest's Vice President posted this explanation a year ago. In it, he said: "we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app", "we’ve also been working on rolling out a desktop experience for the Google Home app.... This will launch in 2022", and "we commit to being more transparent with you on where we are taking the camera portfolio". Unfortunately, there has been no update whatsoever since then.

This is a huge loss to the funtionality.  We had someone steal a bike from our neighbors and I can see one person walking a bike, another person walking around that time, and a car.  But none of these created an event and the police were asking for the video clips.  This is the WHOLE REASON WE HAVE A SECURITY CAMERA!  I pay for the 24/7 so I can see what happened and save the evidence.  This is ridiculous.  The whole takeover of nest was so poorly done.  I'm stuck with cameras still in Nest and new cameras in Google and the way they installed makes it so it won't let me merge them because "an account already exists with that email."  Support told me I'm **bleep** out of luck.   I guess maybe it's good since at least the cameras stuck in the nest app will let me record any portion of the recording.

You're right.

If your Nest account was migrated to a Google account and you're logging into both the Google Nest app and the Google Home app with the same Google (gmail) account and password, all your cameras should be in the same Google Nest "home" covered by the same Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus subscription. We can see our older cameras in the Google Home app, and can see event history, but complete history as well as administration and notifications remains in the Google Nest app.  And our newer cameras have limited functionality because they work only in the Google Home app.

A year ago, Google Nest's Vice President posted this blog promising to address this 2-app situation, saying:

  • "we are committed to bringing the experiences and Nest devices you have come to love in the Nest app into the Home app"
  • "we’ve also been working on rolling out a desktop experience for the Google Home app, so the new Nest cameras and doorbell feeds can be viewed and controlled from there. This will launch in 2022"
  • "we commit to being more transparent with you on where we are taking the camera portfolio"

There has been no update at all since then.
