It really depends on what you mean by "wires aren't connected properly any longer".

The 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell uses a chime puck to provide continuous power to the doorbell without tripping your indoor doorbell chime.

If you are not going to use your indoor doorbell chime, other posts in this forum seem to indicate that your doorbell can then be wired directly to your doorbell transformer to provide continuous power to the doorbell. In that case, you could turn off the "Indoor chime" option for your doorbell and turn on the "Visitor announcements" option (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451( and rely on announcements sent via Wi-Fi to your Nest Hub(s) and/or Nest Mini(s) and/or other Nest speakers.

However, your post simply says "wires aren't connected properly any longer." In order to work properly, your doorbell has to be correctly wired to your indoor doorbell chime using the chime puck, OR it has to be correctly wired to your doorbell transformer.
