Does PoE-powered Nest Cam (wired, 2nd gen) for continuous recording?

TL;DR: I have Google Home Premium for CVR. I want to power the Nest Cam (wired, 2nd gen) from a PoE source (power only—video stays on Wi-Fi) using a PoE→USB power splitter at an outdoor post. Has anyone here run this setup long-term, and does the camera reliably show Wired in the app and deliver 24/7 video history?

Details / what I’m building

  • Locations have good Wi-Fi.

  • From the house, I’ll run outdoor Cat6 in conduit to posts.

  • At each post: small box with an 802.3af/at PoE → 5 V USB(-C) splitter feeding the camera’s power input; short grommeted pigtail to the cam.

  • PoE is for power only; I’m not trying to send data over Ethernet.

Question for anyone who has done this with the wired, 2nd-gen model:

  1. When powered via a PoE→USB(-C) splitter, does the camera consistently report “Wired” in Google Home and enable continuous 24/7 video history?

Context

  • I can run AC receptacles to the locations instead, but would prefer to use PoE if the cameras can support it.

The new cameras take 12v @.75a (9 watts) so they are in spec for POE injection. But the inline barrel connector poses a problem. The pin out looks different than other standard 4 pin inline connectors. I'm waiting for China to come out with a knock off adapter. Or me to get tired of waiting and I buy one and cut up the cable... Would love for someone to try before me for obvious reasons 🤣
