Dog barking alerts (posting a new thread since previous requests are locked)

This has been reported several times as an enormous disappointment, but they are all locked. Thus, I'll suggest here that the newer Nest cameras absolutely should be able to report the same types of sounds and events as previous versions. I thought I had done more than sufficient research on Nest Cam with floodlight and the other outdoor cameras to think dog barking alerts would be available. The way it's all written (sound alerts, animal alerts, etc.), it would be very difficult to determine that the new cameras can't do what the old ones did. It can't possibly be that much of a stretch if carbon monoxide alarms and fire alarm sounds can be recognized. If it's purely an old Nest app feature, then code it in. And not just dog barking alerts... ALL of the features Nest App / device users grew accustomed to expect in the Home App.

Totally agree with you, I bought a couple of Google Home cameras thinking they would have bark notifications (sound basically) as my old Arlo cameras did and searching online comes up with the capability.

I'm now considering moving to another system because sound notifications is one of the main reasons I have a camera. I want to know if my dogs are barking when I'm not home.

Really disappointing that Google bought Nest and took away features.

Hey everyone,

@Mvj and @pdx, thanks for posting here in the community. We appreciate your interest however, we don't have any news to share about applying this feature to the Nest app or Google Home app. Also, the new version of Nest Cameras doesn't have the dog barking alerts. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send feedback about your concern using this form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this after 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

Best,

Emerson

Thanks for the response @EmersonB. Is there a way we can get an answer on if this feature will ever be supported? I've filled out the form before, but as you said they don't respond back to those.

I'm happy to wait for the feature to come, but if it's never coming in the life of the cameras, then I'll spend the money on other cameras. I like using Google Home devices and have many in my house (ranging from cameras, hubs, doorbell, and speakers. I would love to have my devices be seamlessly integrated in the 1 place, but not if the device doesn't do the 1 thing I bought it for.

I agree.  I'll wait it out if they're going to put support for this useful feature back in the product, but if not I'll jump to a place where it is supported.

My dog is well-trained/smart enough to bark if he's going to be sick or something is wrong.  The Dropcam I had was perfect for this detection and saved us both a lot of bad nights cleaning or sleeping in one's own vomit/feces.  I received the email recently that Dropcams would no longer be supported, so when I received my replacement cameras, I was super psyched.  Now I'm super bummed.

They ripped out yet another feature that was helping people and animals.

Google hates rescue dogs.  That's the only explanation!

Hello folks,

We currently don’t have any news but rest assured that if there will be new features in the future, we’ll post updates about it. I suggest checking out our blog for the latest updates. We always create new ones to help customers know more about new features we put out. You can read them here.

Thanks for the help here, @EmersonB.

Thanks Abi. For most of us, this is an existing feature that has been lost, not a new feature.

It's easy for you to lose sight of the fact that we don't see it as a new feature. Just because you have a new product doesn't mean that we see the service any differently. We don't care so much about the hardware as we do the features and this feature has gone missing from our homes.

Thanks

Hi Juni

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I always submit those comments. I have never seen those comments produce any results.

Have you ever seen that route result in any action or improvement?
