Don't buy nest cameras

Neverbuynest

Bought a nest outdoor iq camera about 2 years ago.

The first one died after 8 or 9 months. The replacement died this weekend (won't even power up).

Nest says its out of warranty. Even though the forums are filled with dead cameras.

I paid $120 back in October for a year of service. They won't refund the prorated amount (about $100).

So don't buy this garbage.  At this point, why would I want to use an unreliable camera as a security device?

Already posted on social media and two people have responded "Thank you". So nice work nest/Google.

You know, thank you for asking, because I went back and looked, and had forgotten that I had actually received ONE MORE replacement than I remembered!  So many bad products that I couldn't keep track!  HAHA THAT'S SO FUNNY.

Allow me to recap:

1) I bought a Nest Cam IQ Outdoor Camera for $437 including tax in September of 2019.

2) The original one I purchased had issues connecting and I received a replacement from Nest in Dec 2019.

3) The second one stopped working (didn't even start up) and I received a replacement for that in Dec 2020.

4) In Late October 2021 I purchased a year of Nest storage for $120 for this camera, and in anticipation of getting another.

5) In December of 2021 the THIRD camera stopped working.  It does not power up.

6) Nest informed me that I was now out of warranty, and they would not replace the THIRD camera.

7) I requested a pro-rated refund of the storage fee, $100, since I paid for the year on the assumption that this THIRD camera would operate for more than a year.

😎  I have been informed by at least three NEST reps that you will not be replacing my camera.

9) I have replaced this camera with a set of Ubiquiti cameras, and they work really well!

So, do I need any more assistance?  As far as I am concerned, you owe me at least $100, and frankly, you should refund the $400 cost of that piece of garbage camera- there are plenty of posts discussing what an unreliable product it was.

At this point, I am pretty exasperated.  You essentially took almost $600 from me for a product and service that was unreliable and did not last anywhere near as long as it should have.  It's a SECURITY CAMERA, and it should be reliable. The last one literally broke down while we were out of town and no one was in the house for a week.

And honestly, what kind of company delivers a terrible product and then refuses to even cancel the ongoing service charge for that terrible product when it dies?  Why do I even have to write these messages?  You should be embarrassed.

So, unless you are going to refund me some money, I don't want to hear from you again.
