Doorbell (Battery) Lock Pin is Stuck

I have just charged the Doorbell for the umpteenth time, only this time it will not lock back onto the bracket. On closer inspection the 'Locking Pin' is stuck in the release position. Does anyone know how to release the pin? Otherwise I will have to resort to using a plastic zip tie to secure the doorbell in place.

It is apparently not a very good design; lots of other customers have reported the same thing in this forum. A few have tried carefully applying a little WD-40, being very careful not to get any on the doorbell itself.
