Doorbell Battery notification

Gez
Community Member

I can’t get doorbell ( battery) push notifications working effectively on either phones (apple and androids) or my Google assistant. The doorbell sounds at the doorbell but no notification on mobile device or assistant. Have checked settings on Google home for all users and push notification is set to on and visitor announcements set to on. Doorbell theme is set to a classic ding dong and no access to ring indoor chime. No apparent setting for the doorbell on the control screen for the assistant. Does the battery doorbell not allow for audible visitor notification ?

I have the same issue. For the life of me I can’t get it to work with Alexa or the Google home mini. All I get is a silent notification on the home app.

as it stands, the doorbell is next to useless “as a doorbell”.

Hi everyone,

@Gez I understand if you don't receive the notification from your doorbell. To know more about this issue, I'd like to ask some questions: Is the Airplane or Do Not Disturb mode turned off or on? Is this issue constant or intermittent? Have you tried to check if you can get the notification using a different device?

Give these steps a try:

  • Try turning off and on the push notification and toggle off and on the categories (people, motion, animal and vehicle) to trigger the notification.
  • Reinstall the Google Home App.
  • In case you have an activity zone setup, make sure they don't overlap.

@Mpannenberg I’m sorry to hear if you’re having trouble connecting your Nest doorbell to your Alexa or Google Home speakers.

Try these steps: Turn on doorbell press announcements

  • Open the Google Home app  and then touch and hold your doorbell's tile.
  • Tap Settings  and then Doorbell.
  • Turn on visitor announcements.
  • You can now turn doorbell press announcements on or off in the Alexa app.

Alexa doorbell announcements are only supported on Nest Doorbell (battery) and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen).

Keep me posted.

@MplsCustomer I appreciate your response.

Thanks,

Emerson

Thanks Emerson!

I've created a new Home and reattached my other devices before trying the doorbell. I have enabled visitor announcements and they work in the app. However, in Alexa, there is no Doorbell Press Announcement on the screen where that option should be. It seems like the doorbell is only recognized as a camera. Live view works, but not the announcements.

Hello Mpannenberg,

Thanks for getting back to us. It’s great to hear that it’s working fine with the Google Home App.

Alexa can announce the following Nest camera and doorbell events:

  • Doorbell press: Alexa announces when someone presses a Nest Doorbell (battery) or Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). Some Alexa devices with a display also automatically stream live view from the doorbell.
  • Motion detection: Alexa announces when a Nest camera or doorbell detects motion.

Hit this link to know how to turn the doorbell live view On or Off from the Alexa app.

Regards,

Emerson

As I said: there is no option for Doorbell press announcements in the Alexa app under the doorbell device settings.

Hi Mpannenberg,

I understand if there's no "Doorbell press announcements" option in the Alexa app. You might want to try reinstalling your Alexa app and re-link your Nest doorbell then try it again. If the issue persists, I would recommend you contacting the Alexa customer support. Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

Best,
Emerson

It's fine. I can't keep reinstalling everything, and reconnecting devices to Home and Alexa. Last time I did that I could not reattach my Nest thermostat. I'm also pretty sure that if I reach out to Alexa support, they will send me right back here.

I will get a different doorbell.

Hi folks,

@Mpannenberg don't give up on it yet. To confirm, what type of Nest doorbell do you have?. Just a reminder: Alexa doorbell announcements are only supported on Nest Doorbell (battery) and Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). Also, you can visit Amazon's website for help with Alexa, including its connection to Nest products. For example, you may need to toggle permissions for the Nest skill, or you may need to disable the skill and then re-enable it. Amazon's website has step by step instructions and additional troubleshooting suggestions:

I appreciate the help Archie.
