I want to mount a 2nd gen nest doorbell in place of my house’s old wired doorbell. However the space between trim, where the current doorbell is mounted, is only 12 cm (4.7 inches) tall. The nest is just over 5 inches tall. The trim is about 3/8ths of an inch deep. Can anyone suggest a mounting technique for this situation? Could it be mounted horizontally? I Prefer not to cut the trim but I may do that if there’s no better solution.

Thanks for the suggestions!
It turns out that the included wedge and spacers did the trick, just barely! It looks a little bit funny, but works.

Could mount the doorbell on a piece of new wider and thicker trim or painted plywood for example. Match the depth of the existing trim, or maybe 1/16” more than the existing trim, drill a hole through that and into the wall and then mount the doorbell.

You could also look for a mounting spacer bracket like this:
