Familiar Face Detection not working

rudebros

Since my Cams were installed, I have been having the same issue. Even though they and the doorbell recognize people, I never have the option to add/create a Familiar Face. Once I delete the only one saved, will it allow me to add one. But that's it. No more can be added. Been through countless calls and everything would make it seem it should be working. VERY frustrating to have a service I can't fully use.

Hello, I'm an end user like you.  I just tried it and it seems to be working fine.   I know you have tried a lot of things but going back to scratch for a minute I would suggest reviewing these instructions and see if you can isolate where it is failing.

Hope this helps.

Everything was and is properly set up in Home. Do I need to duplicate it in Nest, too? As of now, my cams and doorbell are not in the Nest App nor does the Familiar Face option exist.

Hmmmm, this is a long shot but are you in the State of Illinois?    I just saw this and it sounds like it applies to the Google Home app but not the Nest App.

(1) Nest’s familiar face detection feature is not available on Nest cameras used in Illinois. Certain state legislation may affect Illinois customers’ use of the feature, so we’ve disabled it as a precaution. If the home where you’re using your camera is in Illinois, you shouldn’t be able to turn on familiar face detection in the Nest app.

Not it Illinois.

Assuming  you are not in Illinois,  Can you check this?   Go into the Google home app and select the Gear (settings) in the lower right corner.   Then scroll down and select SUBSCRIPTIONS.  Then select NEST AWARE and finally select Familiar Face Detection.  Do you see a page entitles "Familiar Face Detection" and it has options to let you manage the faces?

Manage, but only to delete. No option to add.

So I think the way it works is you can't manually add someone.  You have to wait until the doorbell/camera see someone it doesn't recognize.  Then and only then it adds this unknown person to the list of people you see and then the option to "Add Name" lets you name that person.

Unfortunately, that does not work. As I originally stated, when I delete my existing Familiar Face, I get the Name option. Once I have a Familiar Face I cannot add any more.

Hmmmm, that is odd.   I think your next step is to open a support ticket which will let you speak with an actual Google Tech person.  Here is the link to get you started:

I appreciate your attempt. I have an open ticket and they have not been very responsive.

Good luck,  I would love to hear how this turns out.
