Familiar Face says “Unused” and not ID’ing as a person

My Nest Doorbell detected a familiar face that resembled someone who was deleted. Now it is saying “Familiar Face -Unused” and identifying the person as not a person. When I click on “Familiar Face - Unused” it says it’s already added to the library, but there is no one there. How do I set up this new person to be identified correctly?

Hi @Nichole527,

This seems to be a bug where the Nest Doorbell is recognizing a familiar face but isn't associating it with a named person in your library. Here are a couple of things you can try to fix it:

1. Remove "Unused" Familiar Face and Re-add the Person:

  • Open the Google Home app and navigate to your Nest Doorbell settings.
  • Go to the "Familiar Faces" section.
  • Find the "Familiar Face - Unused" entry.
  • Tap on it and choose "Remove Familiar Face."
  • Now, try adding the person again by following the steps for adding a new familiar face in the Google Home app. When adding the person, make sure you provide a clear image for recognition.

2. Re-train Familiar Face Recognition:

  • In the Google Home app, go to your Nest Doorbell settings.
  • Find the "Familiar Faces" section.
  • Tap on the "Settings" icon (usually a gear icon) next to "Familiar Faces."
  • Look for an option like "Re-train Familiar Face Recognition" or something similar. If available, select this option. This might take some time to re-analyze past events and potentially identify the "Unused" face.

3. Check for App Updates:

  • Make sure you're using the latest version of the Google Home app. Outdated apps might have bugs that newer versions fix. Open the app store on your phone and check for updates for the Google Home app.

Additional resources:

Troubleshoot familiar face detection.

By trying these steps, you should be able to get your Nest Doorbell to correctly identify the familiar face.

Best,

Brandon.

#1 - there is no unfamiliar face showing in the library. That’s the problem. Although it says is added to the library, it’s not there. It also doesn’t show up in the unfamiliar faces notification.

#2 - I cannot locate this option in any settings, including the settings for the doorbell

#3 - I have verified the app is up-to-date. Would it make sense To uninstall the doorbell and then reinstall? Or reinstall the entire app?

Hi @Nichole527,

After we have tried some troubleshooting steps and we have not found any possible solution since you're not able to see any familiar face we can proceed and perform a Factory Reset Nest Doorbell (Last Resort): This should be a last resort since it erases all settings and recordings. However, it could potentially fix recognition issues.

Best,

Brandon.
