Functionality of Google Home app vs Nest app

MinerDave

I received new Google Nest cams to replace my original DropCams (Thanks, Google), but I was disappointed to find that I couldn't connect them in the original Nest App.  Google needs to add the same functionality to the Google Home app for customers to be satisfied.

I'm not able to review live history from my Nest Aware subscription in the Google Home app.  This is NOT helpful.  I can only see "events".  There needs to be both as I don't want alerts from every type of event, but I may want to review video history.  The Nest app has both capabilities, and the ability to filter events that may not be monitored for.  The Google Home app needs the same functionality.  You have the code, apply it.

Thanks,

@MinerDave

You CAN view history in the Google Home app for any 2nd gen cameras that are in the same Google Nest "home/structure" as your Nest Aware subscription. (We do.) You have to toggle between events and the timeline. See these instructions:

What benefit does only being able to view history provide? Between missed events, events starting too late, or cutting off too short, having the ability to view AND DOWNLOAD the footage (that we're paying to have access to)  should be a base feature of any surveillance system.

As a customer who has both the old and new cameras, I agree.

Thanks for that answer. Unfortunately, Google changed the iconography to something different than in their help message.

My point remains, the app needs to work very much like the original Nest app.

@MinerDave

Yes, Google Nest changed the icons used to access history shortly after they implemented the new screen, and their help text is out of date.

Yes, Google Nest app's functionality is better.

@EdmondB, thanks for taking this as feedback. I just want the home app to be great as we all transition there.

Also, why can’t I scrub through video history on my older Nest cameras or save video clips in the Google Home app?  I understand your desire to move to the new app, but it can’t be a half-baked solution. How about letting us add our newest cameras on the old Nest app?

Hello everyone,

Thanks for reaching out to the Community.

We hear you, and we appreciate people who share their thoughts and suggestions with us. Our long-term plan is to use the Google Home app as the one place you can control all of your favorite Nest and other smart home devices, as well as Google Assistant. In the near future, we’ll allow users to set up previous Nest devices and have full control in the Home app.

Keep an eye out on the Google Nest Community page for any updates.

I appreciate your help, MplsCustomer, Edmond, and Jenelyn.

Best,

Lance
