I have seen posts from one or two years ago talking about a fix for this or the features would appear in Google home. Where are we with this???

Return it while you can. Google is refusing to support the Nest app with the new cameras while simultaneously refusing to support the legacy cameras in the Home app. The worst anti-consumer catch 22 I've seen in years.
@NestJoke posted a link to my comprehensive thread on this topic above.
Maybe if enough people reply in that thread, SOMEBODY from Google will finally reply with a roadmap or a plan or anything.
Until then, I'd steer clear from buying more equipment in the Google ecosystem.

Hi everyone,
We appreciate you sharing your thoughts and ideas here. However, we’re unable to provide any updates regarding the addition of this feature to the Nest or Google Home apps at this time. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send feedback to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this.
Regards,
Emerson

First - these aren't "thoughts and ideas," these are CORE FEATURES of a security product that are outright missing. Features that have been present in the Nest ecosystem since 2011.
Second - these new "Nest" branded cameras that don't work in the LIVE Nest app is basically a bait and switch to your existing customer base. If they are software locked or engineered to not work with Nest, don't brand them as "Nest." Call them what they really are, "Google $120 unscrubbable live-view-only cam with 81% less features than before!" and at least then your customers won't be confused.
Finally - Why can't Google provide timelines or roadmaps about updates? Don't your engineers work on a schedule? Have a scrum board with Sprints? Have a roadmap they are working toward? How it is possible that a software company can't provide a roadmap?
This seems more accurate.
