Google Battery Doorbell minor cold weather

Stuntmonkey

Purchased a google battery doorbell about 2 months ago. Charged to 100%. Installed and it worked great. Until the outdoor temp dropped. Anywhere below -5 degrees Celsius the doorbell goes offline. Sometimes it will outright refuse to come online when someone comes to the door, and other times it will work.

I still get notifications fine, but zero video (it says doorbell offline).

Don't get me started on anything colder than -20, which is a frequent occurrence. No notifications, no video, nothing.

Before you say "you'll need to hardwire it", I did that, and it made zero difference.

You are not alone. See this VERY long thread on problems with the new Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) in cooler weather well within operating temperatures:

I had the same thing happen to me this morning.. I thought the doorbell might have broken.  Is this a case for a warrantee replacement?

Folks have tried that route, and no go.  You might get a replacement device, but it will behave the same way, as it's intrinsic to the design, being a battery device with trickle charging.   Read the above thread for more detail on that.
