Google Nest Outdoor Battery camera is crap

I just bought the nest outdoor camera battery version because where i need it I have no power to directly install it to house power. After two days it’s already dead.. Yes it cold. It’s winter. Why can’t it charge while it’s plugged in. I just had someone break into my truck a few days ago so I need reliable security at all times. I have a 1st generation camera in my backyard which never has any issues with recording anything. Why can’t google create a product that will support these temperature decreases and give owners a reliable security to there homes without the risk of break ins. I adjusted what I could in the settings to hopefully help with it and drained completely .. like wtf

I have battery powered ones and sadly the battery longevity is at least 5 times worse than advertised so I can relate here.

I definitely noticed accessing the live feed often is decreasing the battery life quite dramatically so you may try refraining from that. Also windy conditions with a lot of random movements do not help.

Hey  UselessProduct,

Thank you so much for posting in this community. I’m sorry to hear that the battery of your Google Nest Outdoor is draining fast. So don’t worry, let's check some tips to get it working smoothly again.

Could you please answer a few questions to assist you better?

  • Are you getting any error messages?
  • Have you performed some troubleshooting steps before? If so, could you tell me what?

In the meantime, try to perform these recommendations.

Try to charge up the camera with the cable that came, then when the device is fully charged, perform a factory reset. For your reference, here’s an article: Restart or factory reset Nest camera or doorbell

The time it takes to charge your Google Nest camera battery can vary based on factors like temperature and battery condition. Optimal charging occurs in temperatures above 32°F (0°C). For additional information, check out this information: Battery charge time

Let me know how it goes; I’ll wait for your response.

Best regards,

Daniel

Just wait until you keep getting the low device warnings waking you up in the middle of the night. They are garbage and google doesn't support them.

Agreed. It's super weird they have no separate category of notifications for this.

I know.  They changed that about 2 years ago.  Needless to say they aren't going to change it back.
