Google Nest doorbell - Problem connecting to cloud

Hi, I'm getting 'problem connecting to cloud' when setting up the doorbell...here's my lowdown:
- I have own domain on gmail but not gmail account (is that a barrier in setting up)?
- I just downloaded Google Home app and set up 'home'.
- I run all Apple products.
- How the hell can I set up the doorbell???

It's a Google Nest battery model and I have an iPhone 13 with latest OS.
