Google Nest doorbell (battery) not connecting to Google Home

I'm at a loss here.

I have a new Nest Doorbell battery.  I have tried connecting it to Google Home(I have an existing home with several Nest devices; a smart thermostat, and two nest speakers, all working without a problem).  When I try to add my doorbell, it goes to "looking for devices", asks what I am adding.  I choose "doorbells and cameras", and then "Nest doorbell (battery)".  I go through the rest of setup, plug it in, and wait for the blue light.  I then click continue, and it says "connecting to doorbell".  It does this for about 30 seconds, and then asks me to move my device closer to the doorbell.  My phone is on top of the doorbell at this point.  I've tried resetting the doorbell to no avail.

Did I get a faulty unit?  I really want this to work; but I'm at a loss!

Hello, I'm an end user as well.  What you are describing is a know problem that people run into from time to time.  If you read thru this forum you will see this issue pop up over the last few years.

Possible solutions that people have said work:

Mike sure you are on the most up to today version of the GOOGLE HOME APP.

The reason it wants to be near another Google device is because it somehow lets the devices speak via BLUETOOTH to teach the new device how to be in your google-home network.   For me I find that bringing one of my smoke (battery) detectors over near the camera and when the time comes hit the button on the smoke detector to wake it and and the process works.

Some people have said it is a Google Server issue and if they wait and try it again the next day it just starts to work.

Other folks have said they user a phone from a family member or friend and try to add the new device that way.

If  none of these work you can open a support ticket and speak with a Google Tech person and they can help trouble shoot (Be ready for about a 30 minute phone call when you do this)

If any of these work please return here and let us know how it went.

So I updated the Home app.  The doorbell finally connected, but now I have a new problem.

I'm stuck on the final setup where it's downloading an update.  It sits at 0%.  For HOURS.  I'm going to try again tomorrow.

Ugggg, how frustrating.   I have heard the sometimes the Google Servers have some kind of hick-up during this update and trying it again hours later can sometimes make it magically work.    You might try powering down your phone and then powering it back up before you try again.    Some people that have reported this problem say that if they use a different family member's phone that it also can make the update work successfully.
