I'm a newbie with this so I have bunch of questions. I recently acquired a Google nest doorbell ( don't ask me how lol) maybe when I know you better lol
1- will the google app that monitors Google nest products recognize 3rd party cameras how about motion sensors or door switches?
2- I will need help with what the app can do.
3- lastly, is the google the only app that will monitor this system.
That's it for now, I'm sure I'll be back asking more questions.
Thanx,
Chuck Bradford

Welcome to the Google Nest community!

Thanks David that helps. 2 other questions, 1 is really stupid lol. 1 is can I monitor remotely ( away from home)? The stupid one, what the hell does the release tool release?

Yes, you can view the live feed from your doorbell remotely. The release tool helps you remove the doorbell from its mount. For Nest Doorbell (battery), you insert the tool into the hole at the top of the doorbell, then pull the doorbell up and away from the wall.

I don't know why they are asking either.
I'm responding under this message because under the last kept getting unknown problem and couldn't reply. Anyway the system I have was from one of the security companies, my question is it came with the google nest doorbell , I was looking at the base unit and it says works with "hey google". If I use hey Google would it tell the security company that I am using their equipment without an account ( I never paid for the equipment) they never sent me a return label to return it and never asked me where it was, that was about about 5 months ago, yes I asked for the return label several times got nowhere, so I quit asking. So after 5 months once I saw it was google nest phone I figured why waste the equipment, I'd try and use it lol. Looking forward to your reply as you have been very helpful.

Hello ChuckBradford,
Glad to hear you got the Nest Doorbell working. With the device that you got from your security company as long as it is on the list that works with Google you should be able to see the live feeds or should alert you if someone is at your door if it’s a hub or display speaker. With the Google Home app on your phone you can only manually access the Nest doorbell by opening the Google Home App.
Let me know if you have more questions.
Thanks,
Edmond

Thanks, I kinda knew some of what you said, if I am away and don't have the Home app, will it still notify me so I can open the app to see and talk to whoever is at my door? The question I haven't got an answer to yet is; If I try to use another device ( primarily the base unit or hub, not sure what call it) will the security company know if I am using their equipment without an account? Was something else I wanted to ask but can't remember right, one of the perils of getting old lol. Thanks for your time.

Hi ChuckBradford,
To use a third-party device with a Nest Camera or Doorbell, you need to link your account first (your security company account) in the Google Home app, and once successfully linked, the device should be active. I'm not sure if your security company will be able to detect that it has been linked to an account with Google. You will receive notifications even if the app is not open or if you’re away for any activities in front of the Nest Doorbell, as long as the notification settings are On for your phone.
Let me know if that helps.
Regards,
Edmond

Ok, the smart home hub ( that's what they call the control panel) says it works with hey google, problem is I don't have an account with them, I never activated it, then after about a month of trying to get the equipment order right, I gave up and canceled everything. And if the base hub works with hey google, do I have have both apps, home app and the hey google ?

Hi there,
Thanks for the details. Could you please send us a photo of the smart home hub you got from the Security company so that we can further check?
Best,
Edmond

Thanx again, a new question, when I tried to download the home app it asked for a credit card card but it won't accept my card, I got 2 different errors, not at the same time 1 was card cannot function,( only a couple times) mostly I would get error saying to update card info, any insight about that?

The Google Home app from the Google Play Store is free, so not sure why you're being prompted for payment details. For those kinds of issues, I'd suggest posting in the Google Play help community, as they're much better placed to advise.

Ok David, got the home downloaded, didn't ask for credit card this time, don't know why.
Now I'm pretty sure I got the doorbell working. If I am trying make it part of a security system, can I arm and disarm the system if I go some where, and will it still work when I am home and system is disarmed? If I use the base unit unit which got from a security company would it alert the security company that I am using the unit without an account

Oh, forgot to mention the base will work with hey google, can I do the same things in home app as I can on hey google?
Thanx

David or Edmond, Edmond wanted a pic of the hub which I sent. Edmond said that I would link to my account with the security company, what can I do if I don't have an account with them. As I said earlier, box for the hub I'd like to use says it works with googles " Hey Google" app, don't know if that makes a difference. Finally can I use the Home app and do the same things I can do with Hey Google? Thanx everyone who given me help.

Hey there,
For you to sync the Smart Home Hub to the Google Nest Doorbell, you need to initially set it up on the Native app, which means you have to download and create an account with your Security Company app, and after that, you will link your Security Company account to the Google Home app if it's on the list of Works with Google Devices.
Let me know if you have additional questions.
Thanks,
Edmond
