Hardwired Nest Camera w/ Floodlight Frequently Turning Off

I have 2 brand new Nest Cams with Floodlights, both hardwired and both work as designed. However, one of the cameras consistently just turns off for seemingly no reason. When I use Google home almost daily it will prompt me "Camera Off". I will turn the camera back on and it repeats at some period of time to "Camera Off". What is happening?

Hi bbowman225,

Thanks for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that one of your two Nest Cams with Floodlight is unexpectedly turning off, and displaying a "Camera Off" prompt in the Google Home app. Help is here!
To better assist you with accurate information, I’d like to confirm the following:

  • How far is the camera from the router?
  • Are there devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, cordless phones, etc.) near the camera?
  • Have you checked the power connection to the camera itself?
  • What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?

In the meantime, here are a few tips to check:

  • Physical damage: Inspect the camera for any visible damage, such as a loose cable or kinks.
  • Internet connection: Ensure your internet connection is stable and strong. Try moving your Nest camera closer to your router.
  • Device restart: A simple restart can sometimes resolve minor glitches. Refer to this article: Restart your Nest Cam with Floodlight.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Melany

Thank you for the troubleshooting steps.

*The router is approx. 50 ft from the router, this would defy logic because the camera that works flawlessly is located further (but not by much).

*Nothing that is directly in the path. Kitchen is off the path of the camera and other things mentioned are also far away.
*I just unplugged the camera and reconnected the camera with a reset by way of the article.

As of this afternoon 5/28/2025 it's still having the issue. This basically a brand-new camera and connection is fine as the other camera which is located slightly further doesn't have the problem.

Hi there!

Thanks for the update.
To help us identify if the issue is with the camera itself or its current installation location, please try temporarily swapping the two Nest Cams with Floodlight.
Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
Melany

Before I go that step, I noticed one css as m is setup 2.4g and the other 5g. Could this be the cause? Is there a easy way to swap the frequency setting?

Hi there!

Thanks for the information.
To ensure reliable camera connectivity, it's recommended to use a 2.4 GHz network. It provides a broader and more consistent signal than a 5 GHz network.
Keep me posted.
