Having trouble setting up Google nest doorbell (battery)

Tizzy

I get an error message every time I try to set up…

While trying to connect to assisting device I get the following “Something went wrong Try connecting again. If that doesn't work, try rebooting your device or turning your phone's airplane mode on and off before trying again.”

It is astonishing that, after hundreds of reports in this forum about connecting to "assisting device" over the last 10 months, Google Nest still has no official solution to the problem. If you search the Google Nest Help site (https://support.google.com/googlenest), all you get are links to the 100+ threads in this forum. You could try searching this forum for "assisting device" (in quotes) to see if any of the customer-suggested solutions might work for you without going to extreme measures like removing and reinstalling all of your Google Nest devices.  (Some customers have had success putting their phone in airplane mode; others have had success temporarily putting their doorbell (or other device) close to an existing Google Nest device that is already installed.

I fully agree with MplsCustomer.  Google should be ashamed of them selves on this as it has been an ongoing problem for well over 9 months.

There are two things you can try:

#1 try getting another phone (maybe from another family member), install the app and long in with the same login and password and see if it will let  you add the device.  This has worked for a number of people.

#2 try speaking with an actual Google Nest tech as they do not respond here on this user forum.  They should be able to get you going.  Here is the link to open the support tick and get to speak with someone.

I am having the same issue.  Nothing I do will work.  I made sure the app is updated and also next to a good devise and nothing works for me.  I do not know what else I can do.  I have these three cameras I want to install but can not.

I’m still having a problem and cannot install the doorbell. I haven’t had much time to trouble shoot quite honestly.

@Tizzy

The first troubleshooting step that I'd recommend would be to Restart your device. By doing this, it should keep all your settings, and reconnect it to the same Wi-Fi network. This is helpful if it ever freezes, has connection problems, or isn't working normally.

Best regards,
Brad

If you're getting a message about being unable to connect to the assisting device, Google Nest has still not provided an official solution for this. Some customers in this forum have had success with one of these two solutions.  In both cases, you'll be prompted to select your Wi-Fi network and enter its password, rather than your doorbell trying--and failing--to connect to an existing Nest device to get these values/
