I manage a number of homes with Nest devices. Finding out over this past week that the new devices only live in the home app causes some issues for users who aren't nerds (though it annoys me too).
Don't get me wrong, I get wanting to consolidate apps. But do the whole thing first rather than piecemeal.
My in-laws now have two apps to access their nest devices. They have to use Nest for their Doorbell & Previous cameras. The confused look on their face when I had to explain that wasn't that fun. So, bring those old camera's into the Home app if you're going to do this. The full feature set.
Also, make a website to view these camera's. I'm a developer. I know how this works. You already have the backend to support a front end. Just build the front end. You had one for nest. Now, produce one for Home.
Again, I get the drive here. maintaining both apps is costly. But, you can't strip away features or make them harder to use in the process and expect people to make a long term investment into your infrastructure.
I'm now kicking myself for not just going sighthound etc. for my inlaws. But, I now know that I won't be adding any other nest devices to my own personal home. I can't be held hostage by the whims of people who don't understand UX/UI and customer needs.

Hey folks,
Thank you for your feedback on this issue, I fully understand the frustrations of not having your new Nest Cams in the Nest App or available on https://bit.ly/3HtBgJC web app. I can imagine having to use two different apps at the moment is quite daunting, and could lead to frustration.
However, the new Nest cameras and doorbell are exclusive to the Home app because we wanted to create an integrated experience with your speakers and displays. A Nest Aware subscription applies to all of your cameras, speakers, and displays in the same home structure. Thank you for your continued patience, and support. I am more than happy to assist you further with this inquiry if you wish. Please let me know.
Best Regards,
Brad.
