Low device temperature warnings

How do you turn off the low device temperature warnings on nest battery cameras? When I look at the notification settings it appears it's part of all critical alerts. This is ridiculous since it is waking me up every night when it gets colder!

@Theraven51

Google Nest seems to have added this "critical" alert in a recent release.

We've gotten it twice on our plugged-in battery camera in Minnesota, but now we're not getting it anymore (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/New-quot-Low-device-temperature-quot-me...).

On another thread, a Google Nest Community Specialist said only "We don’t have any details to share about changing cold weather alerts to not critical." (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Cameras-and-Doorbells/Cold-weather-warning-being-pushed-as-cr...)

It's as if Google Nest made a misguided update to their app, and now is disavowing any responsibility for it.

It definitely doesn't sound like they have any intention of fixing this.  I tried support and they were absolutely no help.  Does anyone have any suggestions for a replacement system?

Hello everyone,

@Theraven51 thanks for reaching out here in the Community. Clearly this type of alert doesn't intend you to wake up every night and that is not the experience we want you to have. As of the moment, we don't have any news to share about when the option will be available to turn off and on the low device temperature warnings. We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback. I'd suggest you send feedback about your concern using this form to let the Google Engineering team know about your concern. While they won't respond directly back to you, this is the best way to let them know about this. Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns as I will be locking this after 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread and we'll be happy to help.

I appreciate the help, MplsCustomer.

Best,

Emerson

My biggest concern is how can I return over a thousand dollars worth of cameras? After talking to customer service I don't have any hope of this getting resolved. I'd suggest anyone considering these cameras to stay away, they are junk and the customer service is horrendous.

Why will you be locking this thread when the issue is not resolved?

I'm getting multiple of these alerts a day. This is my second winter with 3 nest cam (battery) cameras that are all plugged into an outlet. Last winter I did not receive any alerts. This is an EXTREMELY annoying "feature" that cannot be turned off for those of us who live in cold climates. I will submit feedback in your linked form, but I URGE you to follow up with your own management on escalating this issue. As a software dev myself i know feedback that is escalated internally gets much more weight than feedback from random users that may never actually be read.

Please escalate on your end.

Thank you!

I spent hours with customer service and they gave me the impression that they weren't even looking at this to fix. I've been submitting feedback too but it doesn't seem to be helping

I received 8 alerts last night at the lovely time of 430 am!!!!!! This is completely out of hand. I want some answers or a full refund. These cameras are broken!

@Theraven51

This critical alert introduced a month or so ago is peculiar and inconsistent. We've only received two low-temperature alerts ("Low device temperature - Front Yard - This device may have reduced battery life if it is very cold.") on our plugged-in battery camera, both about a month ago, once when it was 4 degrees Fahrenheit and once when it was -4 degrees Fahrenheit. We did NOT receive an alert two days ago when the temperature dropped to -7 degrees Fahrenheit.

This is a NEWLY ADDED--and useless--critical alert. Prior to a month ago, we had never received one in the 17 months we've had the camera, not shortly before Christmas 2022 when the temperature dropped to -12 degrees Fahrenheit, and not in the winter of 2021-2022, when we hit -20 degrees Fahrenheit.

Yeah this is definitely a newer alert for the this winter. It's been consistently going off for me when the temps hit low 30s.  Mine are all running on battery though. The motion detection seems very inconsistent on battery as well.

@Theraven51

On your second point, when we've unplugged our battery camera to see how well it wakes up to detect events, it does not detect a person walking right up to the camera.

Is there any update to this issue?  I'm still having the problem every time the temps drop!

We received two low temperature warnings about 3 weeks ago on our battery camera, but have not received any since then.

You're lucky, I've still been receiving the alerts

We need a toggle to turn these alerts off, preferrabably at the camera but I would settle for a notification channel at this point so they can be blocked at the device level.

Every.  Single.  Time. the temp dips below freezing I get this notification x the number of cameras on my phone and tablet.  It's especially annoying this time of year when the temp swings far above freezing during the day, but then down below freezing at night.

Yes, we know that low temp will affect battery performance.  There has to be a better way to communicate that then a notification every time the temp changes.  Notifications are for actionable things.  What do you expect me to do?  I can neither change the weather nor am I going to gather up all my cameras and nuzzle them in a blanket every time a stiff breeze blows.  Put a warning banner in the app that some cameras are cold and be done with it.
