Nest 1st Generation Doorbell

I have the Nest Doorbell 1st generation. It worked flawlessly for a couple of years, but it keeps going offline when the bell is rung. I've spent hours on the phone with NEST... what do I do next... get a new one?

For many of us, the internal battery on the Google Nest Hello Doorbell (a battery most of us didn't know was there) fails after one or two years. It's failed on all three of our Nest Hello Doorbells. The symptom is that the camera goes offline for a minute when the doorbell is pressed. If your doorbell is past the 1-year warranty, Google Nest says it "cannot" replace the doorbell. The workaround is to turn off the "Indoor chime" option (the doorbell no longer goes offline) and turn on the "Visitor announcements" option and rely on visitor announcements sent to your Nest Mini, Nest Hub, or Nest speaker.

This is the main thread on the problem, with 992 replies:

That makes a lot of sense. I bought the new model and it is working fine. Is that battery replaceable? I'd like to use the old doorbell on the back door.

You can pry apart your doorbell as described in this iFixit post. Apparently, you can order the battery on Amazon. I don't know how hard it is to seal the doorbell tight when you're done (we haven't done it).
