Hi Team - former Googler here.
I have had a second gen nest doorbell for about a year and recently my transformer stopped working. I replaced the transformer properly with the exact same rated transformer (16V, 10VA) and turned the system back on.
I was out at the doorbell and it was blinking either an orange or a yellow light, the color looked like it was somewhere in the middle. I came back inside and I smelled some burning, I opened where my doorbell chime was and the puck was burning up and smoking. I went outside and cut the breaker immediately. I took off the puck and its got a couple of big holes burned in it.
It looks like there have been previous documented issues and lots of other comments on this doorbell.
Note I am not using the mechanical chime and have the chime ring via my Google Home devices.
Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Hi KenzoH72,
Thank you for providing such a clear breakdown of the incident with your Google Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen) Chime Connector. I can see that after replacing your previous doorbell transformer with an identical 16V, 10VA model, the Nest Doorbell puck began smoking and burning. I understand your concern, and I'm ready to assist.
