Nest 2nd gen wired doorbell power question

Quinquilla
Community Member

Hello,

I just wired up my 2nd gen doorbell. I checked the voltage at the doorbell and at the transformer and both are 14va. This should suffice as the box says 10va min, yet my doorbell is flashing a yellow light to indicate low power. What am I missing?

Hi Quinquilla,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community and for sharing with us your concern. Try checking the voltage at the doorbell. Instead of at the transformer, you can check the voltage of the circuit at the doorbell with a multimeter. The compatible voltage is 16 to 24V AC, regardless of  your transformer and chime. The requirements for the 2nd and 1st gen Nest wired doorbells: 16V AC to 24V AC and at least 10VA transformer and wired doorbell. Hit this link for more information.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Emerson

Yes, as you can see in my question I checked the power at the doorbell and the transformer. Thanks though!

Thanks, no I got it. It was 14 VAC and min requirement was 16 VAC (though contrary to the instructions it did not work as a usual doorbell). I installed a new transformer which was not difficult and corrected the problem.
